Yeah it has its own unique style. Doesn't feel like a poor man's Avatar: The Last Airbender. The first series the characters went on a journey around the world, here the series is going to take place in one place.
Reminds me of Digimon in a way. After they do a series that takes place mostly in the digital world, the next one mostly takes place in the human world, and they rotate.
When do you think we will see Aang guide Korra. I am thinking the season finale, they are going to save that for a while.

Watched the first two episodes and i like it, i enjoyed the little nods they gave to some of the original cast members. Seeing Kitara was nice but i thought she would have more than just a few lines. Im getting the sense that Tenzin is going to be a badass if/when he gets upset. Love his kids too. ......and the "What happened to Zukos mom" segment was hilarious and frustrating as hell!!! I think the chief point with Katara was to say "this isn't the Gaang's story anymore, and here's one of them to pass the baton to the new generation". Still, one of the promotional things they have on the website for the show seems to indicate that Katara will show up from time to time. Maybe she'll fill the role Roku did in the first season, sage advisor that's pulled out when needed.

What I'm curious about is how many characters from the previous series will be shown/talked about or are even still alive. We know for a fact that Katara is still alive and that at least Aang and Sokka are dead. Personally, I'm guessing Toph is still alive and, like Bumi, will still kick tremendous amounts of ass in her old age. .......I miss Iroh though. I'm assuming Katara and Zuko are alive still, and think Toph may be as well (although seeing how old her daughter looked, I have my doubts). I think everyone else is gone at this point.

I keep reading about Aang's redesign as an adult (which they're clearly keeping secret for the time being in all the official release stuff), but sounds to me like it's been leaked, as I keep reading about aspects of it.
Honestly, I don't want to see it, I want to be surprised. Hate when stuff like that gets leaked. I was so happy to be surprised in the first Korra episode at seeing Katara, a skybison, and a couple of other things.

I learned my lesson the hard way when I simply went to ToonZone during Code Geass R2's first US run, and I wound up having some interesting stuff spoiled.

Anyone else expecting there to at some point be some big reveal as to Amon's identity? Between the mask and the way the guy goes out of his way to look as evil as possible even when trying to win people to his side, he seems to me like we're going to be introduced to him out of costume at some point.

Honestly, if any of them are alive aside from Katara, I wouldn't want them in any major role either. The biggest role I think anyone could take and be acceptable would be to put Aang into Roku's role and have him be the very sporadically appearing spirit guide. Other than that, if any of the others are still alive, I don't think they should appear except as cameos or as roles in an episode or two. It should definitely be focused on the new cast.

I finally saw the two episodes. Loved them.
Love the whole Fullmetal Avatar vibe I'm getting from it.
Though Republic City is unashamedly designed after New York City. Complete with a giant park in the center of the city and a giant greenish-colored statue on an island.
I also love the soundtrack to death.
One interesting thing is Tenzin basically changed what we knew about the Avatar's weakest element. Back in The Last Airbender episode Bitter Work, we, he audience, was told it was the element opposite of the Avatar's natural element. Thus water and fire born Avatars having trouble learning the other and air and earth born Avatars having the same trouble. But Tenzin said it is the element that is opposite of the Avatar's personality. Going by TLA's explanation of the Avatar's weakest element, firebending would've been the hardest for Korra to learn, but in TLoK it is airbending because airbending is all about peacefulness and patience, which completely clash with the brash, impatient Korra.
Honestly......I like TLoK's explanation on it MUCH better. It has less chance of leading to rehashes.
I was honestly surprised to learn that Korra's weakest element was air. Going in I assumed it was fire.
Also, LOVE that Tenzin has a sky bison. Though.....HOW?! Appa was the last of his kind, unless they somehow found a hidden wild herd or developed cloning technology.
Then again, we don't know how sky bison reproduce, they could be asexual for all we know.
And as cool as pro bending looks, to me it looks a little.....out of place. I don't know why, but to me the pro bending arena looks like it is ahead of its time, style wise.
I think the real question I have now is, is Amon going to be our Zhao or our Ozai? In other words, is he just our season 1 villain, or the villain for the entire series? I would assume the latter because since Korra is planned to be a short series(compared to the first series), you would think it would take them the entire series to resolve every aspect of this Equalist plotline.

1. word of god says that a herd of sky bison was found after atla
2. i thought it was pretty jarring too that they changed what the avatar's weakest thing was, mostly because avatar has paid SO much attention to detail. plus, i would say that fire was more opposite of aang, at least until he and zuko visited the dragons and he realized that fire wasn't about destruction
3. i've read some people come up with ideas that korra being so good at firebending has something to do with some sort of multi-generational guilt from aang taking so long to learn it. or something. it made more sense when somebody else explained it, lol
i'm still gonna miss the old cast though and it makes me sad that everything with zuko and azula's mom is going to be wrapped up in just two more comics. i wanted azula to make amends with mommy, go through spiritual healing, get out of the mental institution and live happily ever after with ty lee :c
and omg i did so much tearbending about sokka being dead. sokka whyyyy.
the change in technology made me sad, as did the change in the way people dress... actually, i think the dress is more upsetting to me than the technology, idk lol
i loved it though

The creators of the series did say in a interview that one of the reasons they made the new Avatar a girl, is in the original series a lot of the popular characters were females. They mentioned by name Katara, Toph, and Azula.
That being said, I wonder if Korra and her personality is a combination of the three? She has Katara's heart, Toph's rebellish attitude, and Azula's arrogance.

If anything she just seems to be especially cocky, so I'd compare her more to Toph in that respect.

I didn't see Korra as being arrogant. At least, nowhere near the level of Toph. She's rebellious and impatient, sure, but not all that arrogant.

I watched the first episode yesterday and I really enjoyed it. I'm going to be keeping up with this show, just like with Avatar.

But I do see some of Suki's assertiveness in her.

I hope the Ferrets end up being her gaang of sorts. Mako seemed to be her likely eventual love interest, if nothing else.
I wonder if we'll ever run into anyone of Sokka's school of swordsmanship. It seems pretty likely he'd go that route.

Concerning the change in weakest elements: agreed, it's a good idea, but it doesn't necessarily negate the whole "problem with the opposite element" idea. One might be a more physical limitation, one more of a spiritual/mental one, and sometimes it could be a combination of the two; for example, Aang's issues with Earthbending stemmed from his physical aversion to taking on targets head-on, feet planted in the ground (goes against Airbending style), but also the mental aspects of Airbenders vs. Earthbenders. Korra's issues with Airbending seem more mental, though I doubt we'll see her having issues with it for too long; think they used it more as a chance to set up a conflict and resolution for her and Tenzin. By the by, concerning Aang's family, {Spoiler}I think some official material that got leaked shows that Tenzin is the youngest of three children (which we did hear), but the leaked material showed small pictures of his siblings. Veeeery interesting.
