Really interested in this- I'm a hockey guy, I remember those Fishsticks and terrible uniforms, and as for Kevin Connolly, I was a huge Unhappily Ever After fan

How much are the Islanders worth now? Can't be the $165m price it was back then, is it?
And my question gets answered on twitter:

I mean there are some teams in MLB whose total player contracts for a single season are higher than that. In other words that is so low that teams in other sports can afford to buy the Islanders....

Yeah the values of NHL teams aren't exactly up to par of franchises of teams from other sports. The least-valuable team of the rest of the big 4, the Bucks, are more valuable than 22 NHL franchises. And for the record, the 3 teams the Islanders are more valuable than are the Blue Jackets, the Coyotes and the Blues: www.forbes.com/nhl-valuations/list/

Pros: Gave us an idea what Jimmy Connors was all about; even mentioning in passing that his pro mentor was Ilie Nastase, Romanian superbrat, almost made Jimmy And John McEnroe look like choir boys in comparison. The run through the tournament. Lots of talking heads giving their side. (Jim Courier was a nice touch.)
Cons: Could have had more highlights than just selective moments. How did the tournament play out? Why just throw out a comment how Agassi lost (was a HUGE DEAL) when that set the tone for the rest of the Open?
I am a Jimmy Connors fan (we share the same birthday, so you're darn right I remember Labor Day 1991), so seeing all sides represented was good. Already watched it twice. Can't help but feel bad for Krickstein, but those are the breaks.
I'd say more, but I'll wait until it's been aired a few more times before dissecting the thing. Don't wanna spoil it for anyone who might be interested.

Show doesn't return until December 14th If I'm not mistaken, that's the night in which they hand out the Heisman Trophy. And for the past four years, the 30 for 30 that airs directly following the Heisman presentation tend to be among the best in the series. 2009 - The U 2010 - Pony Excess 2011 - The Marinovich Project 2012 - You Don't Know Bo

So I got the box set of the first 1514 of the new 30 (along with 8 web-exclusive shorts) and was wondering which 2 to watch tomorrow? Right now I'm leaning towards You Don't Know Bo and Survive & Advance.
Just relooked at the package. It's the first 14 and The Book of Manning.

Good doc. The ABA has always fascinated me for some reason. My cousin had a red, white and blue basketball in the late-1970s. As a kid, I always wondered why pro basketball never used it; only saw the Globetrotters playing with one every so often on Wide World of Sports. Bob Costas likened it to being hard to find that the ABA was so fascinating. There was no ESPN, internet, 24-hour news channels back then. The newspapers rarely ran their standings (much less box scores) unless you were in an ABA territory. It lives on through the stories of people who were a part of it; kinda like the Wild West. You hear stories, but never know if it's truth or hearsay. Free Spirits was okay, what opened my eyes was the "newer" footage they brought out. When Terry Pluto and the players mentioned in the book how they fought constantly, I had no idea how bad. Man, some of those brawls made Kermit Washington's punch on Rudy T look like a 7th grade dance. Pacers center/legend Mel Daniels would say "You had 78 games and 78 fights."
