This pisses me off, because the National Advertising Division went to Proctor & Gamble-the makers and asked them why their ad claimed "2X more volume" and then in fine print added "lashes enhanced in post production."
Ok, so that doesn't piss me off, what DOES piss me off is the lying pricks released a statement saying And I quote:
"Upon receiving the inquiry from the NAD, P&G discontinued the advertisement in question," a P&G spokesperon wrote in an emailed statement to press. "The NAD has deemed our intervention as accurate and proper. We have always been committed, and we continue to be committed, to featuring visuals and claims that accurately represent our products' benefits."
No, covergirl pussed out and pulled their ad because they were called on their claim and now they wanna go out and say that the NAD deemed their intervention accurate and proper. Bulls***. What they did in the first place was wrong. Should they have pulled it or corrected it? Yes. Now they are patting themselves on the back for "doing the right thing" It's their mistake
Maybe their claims are true, but they painted a different picture to go with their claims.
I wish they'd just admit they were some lying pricks.

Damn. I liked those because they were a blatant excuse to have Taylor Swift on my TV looking pretty.
Damn.

How is this anything new? For ages I've seen mascara ads claiming things about length, volume, whatever and at the bottom it says that the model's lashes are enhanced. Hell, I do my eyes all the time and I could tell you with a quick glance at any company's ad that no one's eyelashes come out looking like that by simply using mascara.
What's the big deal this time?

I think it's because they actually quantified the statement with "2 times the volume". By just saying they improve volume, that volume can just be a minute amount and still technically be true.

I guess. I'm so jaded by that kind of thing that I read "2x the volume" and I'm like "yea okay." All the claims seem like bs, putting a value on it or not, you know?

For some reason I imagined this as like some covert mission from the GI Joe character. Like she discovered Taylor Swift was a secret COBRA operative.

Probably having to be careful because of the class action lawsuit Reebok is facing for its shoes.. and I know they have a name.. that promise to lift and firm thighs and buttocks. And they don't really do that...

In all seriousness, this is kind of a big deal in the ad world. The NAD could be on the verge of banning enhanced/photoshopped models in make up ads (which are already banned in Europe).
