I think the games the best Zelda game I've played (Though I guess I should try Majoras Mask again now I'm a bit older as I was just confused as a kid) so I couldn't disagree more with him here.

Oh heavens, no! He didn't like a game I'm 27 hours into and am enjoying thoroughly! Better stop playing.

I like him because he makes real criticisms, he may blow them up but that is his thing. The man doesn't like, he just says what he doesn't like. And he tends to be especially hard on franchises he has expectations for. He has slammed games I love numerous times, but the things he has issues with are there, it just isn't always stuff that bothers me.

This guy is the Armond White of video games. Never that. Yahtzee may be a goofball, but at least he has has legit criticisms for games he likes and those he doesn't. Armond just throws big words around and expects people to think he has a point.

And Yahtzee doesn't try to harp on loving games nobody else does. Armond goes on and on about how Norbit was one of the funniest black movies in the last decade while Precious was a minstrel show on the silver screen.

There was even a joke in his Portal review (the only game he's done a 100% positive review for) that he's contractually obligated to bash games. It's his gimmick, which wont stop people dressed as Link from trying to assassinate him now, but still.

exactly! He's playing a character. He takes valid criticisms of games(99% of which are true to some extent) and amps it up to 11 for comedic effect. It would not surprise me if in real life, the guy who does these reviews is actually a fan of most of the games he reviews.
But then again, I was once accused of only liking him because he's British and talks too fast for me to really understand what he's saying(on this forum, no less!)

It would not surprise me if in real life, the guy who does these reviews is actually a fan of most of the games he reviews. That's what I always figured too, but then again people who know him IRL have said that he really is just a massive shithead who buys into his own hype, so it's kind of hard to know exactly where the character ends and the real person begins. Either way, there's nothing more obnoxious than hating something just because it's popular, and at the end of the day that's all his gimmick really is.

I don't really mind his reviews when he's shown that he actually played the game or did even the barest hint of research. Most of the time, he does give that impression, but there's a few that really seem stupid, like his Sonic Unleashed review where he can't seem to remember which version he's 'playing', and so it just seems like he's muddled together the worst reviews of both the HD and Wii versions.

I'm not really a fan of his, but I don't hate him either. Like others have said, he's playing a character. What he says likely isn't his real opinion on anything, he's saying what he does because people respond more to funny hate than anything else on the internet, save photoshopped cats. He takes things that are legitimate griefs, often minor but sometimes major, and turns up the snark to 50.

I used to like him, but I stopped finding him amusing and more obnoxious and annoying. I think it was around the time he stopped using amusing music for the intro and outro and replaced it with some generic buttrock. I think this is also around the time he started taking himself too seriously.
He's also just not that good a gamer. He'll complain about games he sucks at (like fighters) and bitch about challenge being a design flaw instead of acknowledging he's not very skilled. I don't hold a lack of skill against people, but blaming the game instead of acknowledging you aren't god's gift to gaming doesn't sit well with me. It also diminishes any opinion he'd have on any games that actually are unfairly difficult or unbalanced.
Also, I've seen videos of the 'real" him, and the character of Yahtzee is more an exaggerated version of his real self. The opinions are more ...colorful for Yahtzee than they are for Ben Croshaw, but they aren't fabricated or made up. All the games he completely hates on he really does dislike.

I really need to play more Skyward Sword. I haven't touched it in forever - got to the key-collecting thing for the second dungeon and said screw it. Enjoying it, just really not in the mood to go hunting for filler material.

It's a Zelda game that heavily uses "motion controls", given his past thoughts on the subject (He thinks they're the scourge of gaming.) I was totally expecting him to be down on the game right from the start.
