In between marathon sessions of Skyrim, one of the films I'm watching today is Ben Affleck's The Town. What did ya'll think of this film?

I'm watching the Extended cut, by the way, which the blu-ray has a feature that is so genius, I'm surprised it hasn't been done elsewhere(to my knowledge). I hope it becomes common-place. During scenes exclusive to the extended cut, a small, unobtrusive symbol appears in the upper-left(and a prompt comes on before the movie, asking if you want to see that symbol or not).
It's really convenient, because now a viewer can watch the extended cut, know exactly what was added, and then make a decision about the need for those scenes without having to watch both cuts.

I liked it but it wasn't as good as Affleck's Gone Baby Gone.

was, or wasn't. GBG was a really awesome film. I don't know why the Academy has yet to really recognize Affleck's directorial talents, but luckily the more independent awards have more than made up for that.

I meant "wasn't", sorry. I think maybe they've always held it against him that he won an Oscar for best screenplay. Believing that he didn't have anything to do with it. His next movie is Argo, about the CIA creating a fake movie to get in the US Embassay in Iran and get the hostages.

Yeah, that probably at least has a bit to do with it, coupled with that he joked around about that basically being the case in projects like J&SBSB. For being a group(the Academy of motion pictures) that is supposed to represent artists, they can be stiff suits a lot of the time.

The casting for all these Affleck movies is absolutely amazing. Being from just south of Boston I know people who act like some of these people almost to perfection.
And GBG was IMO an Oscar worthy movie, it was that good.

And GBG was IMO an Oscar worthy movie, it was that good. Indeed. When I first heard that it was Ben directing Casey, I thought it was going to be more of a gimmick that anything else. However, it blew me away. I went into the film with minor expectations, and was probably the most pleasantly surprised I've ever been by a film.

Is it wrong that I just want John Hamm's character to destroy everyone in this film? I think I'm watching it wrong

okie dokie, just finished it, and it was pretty awesome, but like my good man Shakemaster stated, not quite as good as Gone Baby Gone, which was probably one of the most well-rounded films of the past decade(2001-2010).
Just as a note, I haven't watched the theatrical cut, and I almost wish I did first. Not because I think it would be better(the Extended cut is awesome, and nothing feels "tacked on"), but rather because I'd like to see how much sense it would make plot-wise, and how it would thematically. shift. As it seems like a lot of what was added were character-developing scenes. From what I saw, without those scenes, it'd play more like straight-up action movie. Those who have blu-ray capabilities, I recommend tracking down the extended cut.

I liked the final heist/shootout. It was an interesting setting that I had never seen atleast. I didn't like the ending though.

Best movie of its year. Proof Affleck can act, and direct. Read the book before I saw the movie. Loved every bit of it. Turned me into a huge Jeremy renner fan. Will say the extended cut is not better than the theatrical although it is slightly closer to the book which is also not better than Afflecks direction.

Best movie of 2010, in my opinion. Everything about it was just absolutely perfect.

It's just that the general public hears "action movie" and has been trained to think only of films like The Expendables(which has it's place in the entertainment sphere, it's just personally not my type of movie). I'm glad action movies with a brain such as this and Gone Baby Gone have their place and that people recognize their awesomeness.

I liked how when they robbed Claire's bank how Doug had to steady her hand when she opened the safe. Just because in every movie heist, no matter how scared everyone might be, they always have a steady hand while opening the safe. No, if you're being told to open a safe at gun point your hands would be atleast a little shaky!
Loved how Doug took out Fergie.
"I'm from the 'Town' and I'm proud. I mean sure that place ruined my life. Like literally ruined my life.....But I'm proud." Greatest quote ever!
