What are your thoughts on this film/documentary? I've watched it 2 or 3 times, and I absolutely love it. Watching this film really makes you realize how Glam hurt itself long before Grunge became mainstream, some of the lesser known bands were way more focused on style over substance. Of course some bands have found huge success in a healthy balance of style and substance, but dear God, some of these guys just wanted chicks and booze - nothing more, nothing less.
What do you think of the film?

I liked it and found it to be a pretty accurate depiction of what it was like during the 80's.

I absolutely love it, which should surprise no one. But I find the last part, with the guy from W.A.S.P. (I can't believe I can't remember his name!) getting boozed up in the swimming pool a bit disturbing.

I'm a huge metalhead, and it's been on my "stuff to watch" list for at least 15 years. I think this thread is a sign to finally watch it this weekend.

EDIT: It was Chris Holmes, W.A.S.P.'s guitarist at the time.

Oden is by far the best part. Those poor girls who thought those guys were going to be big stars

I think it's one of the most unintentionally funny movies I've ever seen. I don't know if I'm sick for getting so much pleasure out of all the start-up bands being interviewed and flat out refusing to believe they'll do anything but "make it" but that's one of the funniest things I've seen in a movie.
Just as funny to me was Dave Mustaine closing the movie by shitting on everything we'd just seen. It's not my favorite movie, but it's definitely something I like to watch if I can catch it.

Dave the Dave - There are definitely a lot of people in denial featured in this film, it's almost sad to see because knowing that they didn't make it; it's got to make you wonder how they feel now. One thing I've learned from studying the business side of the music business is that you really shouldn't expect anything - just do your best to make it happen; but never think you're going to make it. And your chances of making it are severely lowered if you sound like this!

Loved it. I am a huge metalhead who has a great appreciation for the 80's scene as well. Although seeing Chris Holmes in that state was very sad and in retrospect that scene has become pretty iconic in metal for that reason.
The director said that after she finished filming that she didn't think she had anything. In her words she said "Okay, I didn't get anything. It was just him goofing off and when I watched it I literally said oh my god."

Chris Holmes is an ass.
He told Brian Posehn to "grow some tits".

I haven't seen any of them. I really want too though. They are about the only docs of the genre I have left to watch.

The economy killed good times, not style over substance really. If we had a good economy and people weren't so miserable, we'd have more style and flash.
