For some reason I was never interested in these type of games when I was younger. I guess I felt like they were too kiddy. I was more interested in more "mature" games like GTA and MGS. Anyway, I picked up the first Jak and Daxter a while back and finally got around to playing it a few weeks ago. I loved it so much that after I beat it, I decided to pick up Ratchet & Clank, which is another awesome game. I also really enjoyed the first Sly Cooper game when I played it a while back, but I never beat it so I'll be getting it soon too.
Anyway, are there any good platformers that aren't in those three series? I guess you can suggest PS1 platformers also, since I'll be getting my PS2 laser fixed soon so I can play CD based games.

Ah yea, I've played Psychonauts. I've actually owned it, twice. Good game, but I never thought it was the must play title that other's seem to. Kind of like Beyond Good and Evil in that regard.

The first 3 Ratchet & Clank games. They are PS2 platforming nirvana.

Out of that list I've played the first Jak & Daxter, the first Sly Cooper, Psychonauts, One of the Spyro games (didn't like it much), the MM Anniversary collection, most of the MMX games, Crash Bandicoot Warped, Jumping Flash 1, and Symphony of the Night. Great call on Ape Escape. I forgot all about those games but heard they're great. The Maximo games(Ghosts to Glory and vs. Army of Zin) Whiplash I've never heard of either of those so thanks for the suggestions. I'll look up some reviews and see if it looks like something I'd like.

It's odd, I don't think I have _ANY_ of the "2nd tier" platformers on PS2 except Sphinx. I don't have Haven, I don't have Dr. Muto, I don't have I-Ninja, I don't have any of the Legend of Spyro games,
Maybe if you count Samurai Legend Musashi.
Wild ARMs 4 is an RPG with a surprising amount of platform sensibilities in its overworld.

My favourite platformer from last gen was actually Klonoa 2, but that one might be hard to find. There's also Rayman 3 if you haven't already played it on another system.

God, how did I forget Klonoa 2. 100% endorse this as well, though if you can play the remake of the first game on Wii over the original PS version.

This game is one of the most underrated games I have ever played. I highly recommend it: {Spoiler} I'm sad to say that I've never beaten it but I have gotten far. Must do another playthrough and keep at it until the end this time.

These are some interesting suggestions, I've never heard of a lot of these games. I plan on really bulking up my PS2 library in 2012 and I really enjoy the mindless fun of platformers. RPGs are still probably my favorite genre, but I don't always have enough time to finish them.
I'm seriously loving Ratchet and Clank. I think that my next game will be the 2nd game in the series, but I'm also really wanting to pick up Sly Cooper. I remember thinking that game was incredibly fun when I played it some years ago.
