The Joker in The Dark Knight is a lot like the interpretation of the character from The Killing Joke by Alan Moore, and also subsequent interpretations of the character from the comics in the 80's and 90's. In the comics, "Jack Napier" never existed, much less kill Bruce's parents. That was a guy named Joe Chill, which Batman Begins got right. Mark Hamill's Joker shared some characteristics with Jack's Joker, but I thought of him more as a cross between the Silver Age Joker (which, goofy as it was, the 60's TV Joker was pretty accurate too, but then lol Silver Age) and the more psychotic modern character. The comics Joker at the time also started to take some cues from TAS Joker, even officially introducing Harley Quinn into the comics' canon. Again, I enjoyed Jack's Joker for what it was. He was a really good movie villain. But he wasn't really the Joker so much as Jack Nicholson in clown makeup. I'd say it's a mix of The Killing Joke, A Death in the Family, and The Long Halloween in a way. Either way though, you are completely on the ball with every other description. Personally I always preferred Jack Napier to be the killer of the Waynes than "Joe Chill" I like the idea of the Joker effectively creating Batman. But The Joker isn't going to randomly kill the two most important citizens in Gotham in a dark alley just to rob them. That's not the kind of thing he would do. At the time, he wasn't the Joker. He was Jack Napier, violent teenaged deliquent.

I'll just leave this and this here again. They've gone through every one or them by now, though I think they like TDK a little too much, much as I like it. Their Returns review is the best one though, IMO at least.

While I'm not gonna argue that Joker shouldn't have been the guy who killed Bruce's parents(which probably kept this movie from being 100% perfect), Ras Al Ghul being Bruce's mentor equally messes up Batman's origin too. Ras creating the foundation for Batman makes him look less impressive. I liked it better when Batman was something Bruce created from scratch. It also makes Ras look less impressive because he was able to find out that Batman and Bruce Wayne were the same person by using intellect.

I believe he was trying to say that Ra's didn't get to use his intellect here unlike in the comics, since he helped train Bruce in the first place.

Exactly. It was easier in the movie for Ras to figure out Bruce and Batman were the same since he taught him everything. In the comics, Ras figured it out through observing Batman, and figuring him out.

If the only villain had been him, this could be done, but since Falcone and Scarecrow were also big parts of the story, there just wouldn't have been enough time for that.

Seeing as you mentioned the Coke commercial, I also remember the Warner Bros Ballcap commercial. "Bollcap" in the way Daffy said it.
"NECK TIES!"
If you didn't get a Warner Bros Bollcap then, don't try and get one. That offered expired well over 21 years ago.

1. It's based on a comic, or a series of comics, each of them get's a different interpretation of the material. I don't really understand how someone can "get it wrong" so to speak. It might not be interesting, but as long as your in some kind of parameters established by the numerous writers(Batman is Bruce Wayne, Joker is crazy and wears makeup, ect) then I think your ok.
2. This movie gave us so many great Jackulator quotes.
3. THIS THREAD NEEDS AN ENEMA!

When my DVD of BATMAN didn't have the Diet Coke commercial or the WB catalog commercial, I took my VHS tape of the movie and burned just those two commercials onto a DVD. What can I say, I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff. Yeah, I never thought of changes like Jack being the Waynes' killer as "getting it wrong." It's just a different interpretation of the story/stories, to me.

This This This ESPECIALLY this!!!! Couldn't agree any more! IMO, Begins sucked, even worse than Batman and Robin, and I wonder why it gets the love it does. You can't be serious with this. Why can he not be? Totally agreed. Best in all aspects, hands down.

I remember seeing Batman on my birthday. In November. It lasted that long in regular theatres. Nowadays, you're lucky if a movie's out a month. Always loved this movie. I notice little things now and then, but I always view it fondly and with more enjoyment than criticisms. I saw Batman 89 on my birthday too... June 23, 1989... I turned 13 on that day...my parents were kinda strict at the time and I couldn't see a PG-13 movie if I was 12... imagine seeing the 2nd trailer (the one that had the release date attached) for what was going to be one of the biggest movies of all time and knowing ahead of time that it was rated PG-13, and then getting to the end of the trailer and seeing that the release date was my 13th birthday... holy crap... I still have the teaser one sheet hanging up to this day...
