Hey guys. I just got back from helping my step-dad pick out a new HDTV, and tomorrow, a Dish Network employee is coming out to install his HD upgrade, and I just have a minor question(I'm asking here because my own research is giving me conflicting reports).
So, I convinced him not to waste his money on an HDMI cable @ Best Buy(the salesman tried to sell him a $70 cable. Total BS). I know Amazon and Monoprice have cables on the cheap, but I was wondering if Dish will give us one when they install. Some people online have said yes, they'll give you one for free, others have said they cost about $30, while others have said they said installers don't carry them at all.
Any of ya'll have an experience in this matter and could offer any insight. Thank you in advance.n

I haven't used Dish, but BOTH DirecTV and Time Warner will generally give you 1 free HDMI cable with installation (Mostly because they'll use the cable in hooking it up for install).
To be on the safe side though, get the cheapest HDMI from MonoPrice you can. That way you'll have it just in case ithey don't provide one and have an extra if they do and only be out maybe $10 Total (Price + Shipping). You can always use an extra cable just in case one goes bad.

It's been a year since I got mine, but I do not recall being given one. Then again, I needed two to hook up the HD TV to the Dish box and one to connect my Blu Ray to the TV so my memory probably sucks.

yeah, can't get one ordered before tomorrow(when the HD upgrade occurs), but we'll see if I can get one from the installer for free/cheap. I'll be here, so hopefully I can use my boyish charms(ie: tell the installer that more than $10 for an HDMI cable is highway robbery/have sex with them)

Pretty sure I got one when they did my upgrade a year or so ago.

oh man, I really do hope we get one. I played Skyrim for a while. Playing a game in 480i on a 42" 1080p TV is like titf***ing a girl. Simulatenously awesome and the biggest tease . I debated bringing an HDMI cable from my place, just in case, but was like "Nah, what are the odds my stepdad gets an HDTV while I'm there?". Sure enough, he picks one up my first day back The corporation is going to sue me for over working the poor guy.
