What the hell guys?! I thought we all agreed to pretend that the second one wasn't ever a thing so there'd never be a third one. Sure, it was okay for us to take a peek at the first one because of nostalgia but after that, no effin' more. I like Jason Lee and I'd hate to see him out of work but if I have to see a commercial for this movie one more time, I'm going to the trailer park to punch a dude that looks like Earl Hickey.

There's only ONE Alvin and the Chipmunks movie, and you can't convince me otherwise. And that's this:

It's a kids movie made to pull in as much money as it can, and if this one does well, expect a fourth film in the franchise. Honestly, I don't get why people hate on movies made for children in kindergarten, and how they complain the story sucks. It's a movie for kids who still shit themselves on occasion, so that should tell you that the plot doesn't need to be all that captivating.

Because it's a movie series based on subject material that people my age and older grew up loving that used to have more depth than "They're on an island and now they're singing that Willow Smith song!"

It's really a vehicle for the cruise ship industry to try and undo all the damage of people getting sick, having to eat nothing but Pop-Tarts and Spam, and the rock wall.
Still... we didn't want the remake, why must we get two sequals?

It's a kids movie. We're grown ass people. We probably shouldn't worry about it so much.

It's just a reflective sign of today's pop culture. It's not like he's going to be busting a cap in Simon's ass.
Although...

It's a movie for kids who still s*** themselves on occasion, so that should tell you that the plot doesn't need to be all that captivating. Because it's not even a good kids' movie. The best movies for kids are movies that the whole family can enjoy, like the majority of the (classic) Disney, Pixar, and Don Bluth canon. Movies like this one have jokes that aren't really appropriate for kids, but are still too cringeworthy for adults to enjoy. Take the Lady Gaga example someone mentioned earlier. Kids don't really get it, and adults don't like it. Who is it aimed at? I think a lot of the griping about movies like this is due to the fact that studios fall into that unfortunate mentality that movies for kids don't really have to be any good. Throw some poop-eating jokes for the kids, and for the adults, add some forced pop culture references that will probably be dated by the time the movie hits DVD. The Muppets pretty much gets it as close to perfect as I'd expect from modern Hollywood, and it is absolutely cleaning up. I only hope that people continue to vote with their wallets and we keep getting quality movies that will stand the test of time.

If this bombs then that would take care of things, but it won't because parents can't say no to their kids. Which, there's nothing wrong with the film, it's just fluff, so it's up to the kid to decide. Not a lot of parents will say no to their kid because they think the film looks stupid

Eh, as a thirty three year old dude w/out kids, these things fly right under the radar. Just another movie I won't see.
Hell I LOVED some goofy shit as a kid too; it was a painful realization to go back and watch He-Man and realize how terrible a show that actually was.

They should make a Jem and the Holograms live action movie, they had much better (original) music than the Chipmunks cartoons ever did. A role as Jem (or that lead girl from the Misfits either way) would make some young hottie's acting career also.

From all accounts it didnt do very well, so i guess we wont be seeing a part 4. Hopefully this means we wont see any OTHER remakes of old cartoons injected with "attitude" (though i bet somewhere on some producers desk is a "snorks" film, complete with "snork" being used as a profanity,,you know, for kids!)
