A couple of days ago, I decided to "buy" this game. I just finished the fourth case (which was supposed to be the ending, I think). Finding evidence is quite interesting and I like the cross examining parts. Pretty awesome game. After I finish the game, I may "buy" the sequels.

Do it, the second game (Justice For All) while not as good as the first overall does have one of the best cases in series history during that game's final case (The only downside is that you have to get through that games case three considered by many to be most annoying case in the series, to get to it.)
Then you can move on to Trials and Tribulations which I consider tied with the first game to best in the series over all, all five cases are awesome from start to finish.
The other games in the series Apollo Justice and Investigations: Miles Edgeworth are also worth checking out, Justice plays a bit like an extended version of case five from the first game (a bit on the easy side though.) and despite the new interface and features Investigations is still an Ace Attorney game at its core.

Be prepared for Justice For All to be not quite as good overall as the first one (especially case three as Mistah Sunnyside mentioned), but that last case is SOOOO incredibly worth it.
Trials and Tribulations though, I think is the best in the entire series and is awesome from start to finish.

I had no issue with Justice for All. That circus theme will get stuck in your head, be warned. Since you're "buying" them, hold down the fast forward button when you're talking to Regina, I think it turns the circus theme into a pirate song.

Normally I'd criticize "buying" when it is a niche game where if it doesn't sell, it doesn't get made.
Not when a new copy is 90 f***ing dollars though, and that is probably secondhand/new anyway.
EDIT: I think they re-issued the first game, as it is 30 dollars new on Amazon. If it isn't secondhand/new, go buy it.

I played the first one this summer and adored it, I need to play the second one. Really clever and fun stuff.

I played the second game first due to not knowing there was more than one, but I backed up and played the first afterward. Personally I think the first is one of the weaker ones since its writing isn't quite as punchy, but that's understandable and it's still a great game.
The worst though is Apollo Justice. Plays well, but the plot is awful and none of the cases have that usual series charm to them.

I loved Apollo Justice.
That last case is WAY longer than it needs to be, though. And I hate how they shoved Phoenix into the game as a focal point.

Speaking of final cases that go on too long, Ace Attorney Investigations' case 5. Way, way too drawn out by the end of it. Apollo Justice was the first game in the series I played. I picked it up around when it came out due to curiosity and a rave review I read about the Japanese version (the same magazine bizarrely scored the US version a 5.5/10) and loved it, though it's since fallen off a bit. A little bit later I picked up Justice for All and Trials and Tribulations from Walmart while they still had it, and then a little later I finally got the first game. It's since become one of my all-time favorite series, and I'm still crushed and angry that Capcom passed on bringing Gyakuten Kenji 2/Ace Attorney Investigations 2 over here. There hasn't been a bad or even mediocre game yet, though Apollo Justice is a bit of a misstep for a few reasons: Phoenix being shoehorned into the game and hogging the spotlight (I've read he wasn't supposed to be in it at all but either Capcom brass or the development team balked), Apollo and Trucy not being quite as engaging as Phoenix and Maya, and the story being weaker than other installments. Also: Rumor is it's being released here in February though by last word Capcom hadn't decided whether to do a limited release or to do it as DSiWare.

Amazon UK has them for a fairly reasonable price and since the DS is region free you could just get them from there. I think I was like £30 for Trials and Tribulations.

Wasn't that started by a guy on GameFAQs who later said he made it up? Not doubting you or anything, I'd dearly love for this to be true. I just remember reading about a February release a few months back and it turning out to be fake.

I heard the reason that Capcom gave for not localizing AAI2 was the cost of translation. If that is the case, then doing a limited release makes no sense, really.
I would love for that to be the case, though.

I had fun going through it. But two problems;
1) It has that really dumb anime humour that is anything but funny. Though that's minor.
2) The game has little to no replayability.
With that said though, I still enjoyed all of them.

Also: Oh, my God, yes. {Spoiler}Quercus Alba takes way too f***ing long to go down. Yes, it leads to some of the most badass moments in the series, but that just dragged and dragged. Phoenix getting his own trial and investigation in the middle of a case wasn't even as bad as that.
