Just dusted off this PPV the other night, and I gotta say this match may be one of the biggest dissapointments as far as who was involved. It was by no means a terrible match, but with the talent involved it should have tore the house down.
So what went wrong? Did they not have enough time together? Were they phoning it in? Or did their styles simply just not mesh well? As far as I know this was their only meeting (at least one on one) in the ring, did they ever wrestle again?

They just didn't mesh well. Both guys were great bumping heels. Perfect never did make for a very good face, either.

One of the problems was that it was hyped up as a classic to determine the greated Intercontinental Champion of all time. That alone was the first mistake: never guarantee a classic.

I think the no-finish really hurts this match. Not only in terms of people's receptions, but likely also in how both men approached it in terms of performance.

Aside from the chemistry just not being there, it was more used to build up Diesel and get him into a feud with Perfect than to be a proper resolution to the Perfect/HBK feud.

Better match, Shawn vs. Martel at SummerSlam 92 or Shawn vs. Perfect at SummerSlam 93?

I liked the match when I was a young kid, but I rewatched it for the first time since then a few years ago and felt it was very underwhelming. They had a match in 91 when Shawn was still a Rocker that was a very good match.

This was the same PPV where Luger beat Yokozuna by count out, but everyone celebrated and even had confetti like he just won the title, correct?
Seems like a messed up show from top to bottom.

Honestly, that ending gets a lot of flack but I always kind of dug it. To me, it made it seem like Yoko was such a monster that just getting a countout victory on him was an achievement. The confetti was a bit unnecessary, though.

The Ludvig Borga match on that show is great though.

Shawn said in his book the two just didn't click in the ring - which is odd considering who the two were...
