He's also one of those guys that, alongside Hulk Hogan, Bruiser Brody, and King Kong Bundy (among others) that I look at and think, "Oh yeah, that guy looks like a pro wrestler".

Dr. D was a mothersmurfing monster. I never got why we didn't seem to want him around here in the states.
A big ugly, scary dude that suplexed the bejeezus out of people? What the snork, USofA? He should've been Kurt Angle.

I can honestly say I agree with everyone's assessments of his athleticism and career. In Japan, where they really appreciate badass American wrestlers, the Miracle Violence Connection were revered as wrestling legends. I remember being very annoyed at the Brawl For All nonsensical booking. If that wasn't WTF, what is? I marked for his association with angry Jim Ross, and really would have loved to see Doc display some new styles under the Noh mask that they wanted him to appear with. He could've worn the mask and taken it off as he liked, much like Big Van Vader.

I love his matches in Japan but I remember being really bored by him when he showed up in WWF during the attitude era. Then again, I went back and watched some of his beatdowns from that time period and if that happened today I'd be marking the f' out.

Lance Storm wrote about Doc a couple of months before he passed away in an article responding to someone asking him who he thought threw the best worked punches. I can't find the article but the gist is Storm said that he met him on a house show in Doc's hometown and that Storm was scheduled to put Doc over. He wasn't too happy at first but was ok with it later, as Doc was a veteran. They met before the match and Doc tells him that he wants to do a couple of punches in the match. Doc then, without warning, throws a worked punch at Lance; Lance was completely taken off guard and said that the punch sounded so loud on impact, looked so real, that he thought that Doc legit threw a haymaker. However, the punch was as light as a feather; Lance was dumbstruck at such an incredible punch, saying that he never saw anything like it before or since. It was apparently even so good, some of the other wrestlers got pissed off and were ready to stick up for Lance before he told them it was worked and that Doc didn't actually lay him out. That's awesome.

I loved it in Brickhouse Brown`s shoot where he talked about busting Dr. Death open hard way. He was literally scared for his life and was going through his bag in the lockeroom looking for his gun.

Honest to god, I saw him attempt a round-off back elbow in a match in Japan. On this same tape, Stan Hansen also did a dive through the ropes.
I wish I could find footage of either move so I can be 100% sure I didn't make it up.
