I was watching some early Hogan WWF stuff, and even after he won the WWF title Hogan was still wearing different colored tights/kneepad/boot combinations. So when did he become red/yellow exclusive? Did he explain in his book or anything why those colors?

I've wondered that myself. I remember for years during the "All-American Wrestling" theme and video, Hulk would drop the leg on Johnny Rodz and he'd be in white trunks/boots with blue kneepads, or he'd beat another guy wearing green trunks/boots and yellow pads. And, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't he and Andre both wear red trunks at that one SNME where they ran off Studd & Bundy?

He considered red & yellow to be the cure for "when it comes crashin' down and it hurts inside". Some time in late 1984 it crashed down often, and hurt always, thus the switch to red & yellow all of the time. There was brief time before the formation of the nWo where it temporarily stopped crashin' and hurting, where he wore a lot of black. Then in July 1996 it no longer crashed nor hurt for about 6 years. Then, after his match at Wrestlemania X8 it started crashin' down, and it hurt inside again(I think that might be internal bleeding), so the Hulkster was back in red & yellow again. Or maybe that was nostalgia, brother, I don't know.

I think you can find matches of him in 1986 with the white trunks, so I think he went exclusively red and yellow sometime in 1986 or early 1987.

I wanna say 1986. He was wearing blue in his SNME match with Terry Funk.

With a gimmick name like "Hulk" I am surprised they never had him wear purple, or jeans.
Maybe they chose Red and Yellow because they are commercially successful colours like McDonalds.

They were already in hot water calling him "The Incredible Hulk Hogan". Why go all out and thumb your nose even more?
