Interesting. I have never been able to figure out any rhyme or reason as to why their ratings go up or down from week to week. Over the past 2 years, the range has been about 0.8-1.5, with probably 90% of shows coming in at 1.0-1.2.
The good news for TNA: they have a very loyal audience
The bad news for TNA: The growth rate of TV viewers of their show is essentially flat.
I guess that's good, considering that WWE's audience has been slowly shrinking(recent small upturn excepted) for the past 5 years or more, and the overall trend for TV wrestling in the past 10 years is dramatically down.
Perhaps the other good news is that wrestling has long been cyclical in the U.S., and we've been in a down cycle for some time now. The industry is due for a rebound, and is wide open to the first company that can come up with the next big thing that jumpstarts the revival. And, WWE has no hold on innovation. In fact, the last decade has suggested they have somehow lost the creative touch that launched the Hulkamania and Attitude eras.
It was suspected, perhaps for the first week or two, that the CM Punk-Outsider angle might be the gimmick to turn it around. Now I think that's doubtful. More likely, the "Next Big Thing" is still waiting to be found.
