I know that the first and third movies aren't exactly cinema gold, but why did Revenge of the Fallen suck SO bad that Michael Bay apologized for it?

Because of the twins.
Also, I personally found it really f***ing boring which is odd since a movie about gigantic robots should be, by definition, absolutely awesome.

Well, the first problem with the movie was that it started. The second problem was that it continued to play. After that, it just gets worse: Sam's parents, the Twins, a human being in Autobot Heaven, Sam dying and coming back to life, Megan Fox in general, robot balls, the Fallen being a side character in its own movie, the Twins again (they were that bad), and Sam being Sam...
Long story short, everything went wrong.

Long story short, everything went wrong. It's funny- I understand just about every other criticism for RotF and the Transformer movies in general, with the exception of the Sam character. I don't know if it's just fallout from Shia LeBeouf's real life arrogance, but Witwicky serves a purpose as the everyman of the story. Besides, if the films focused entirely on the robots, the budgets would skyrocket and they'd barely break even.

The twins and too much crude humor (e.g. giant robot balls)

Sad thing is my brother who was 20 years old at the time laughed at the balls joke

I didn't like the designs of the robots in this one.

I didn't like the designs of the robots in this one. They were too shiny. I had trouble following their movements.

It was one of those movies, after it was over...I don't remember hardly anything that happened.

The problem was that the first one sucked, and they made another.

1. The Twins 2. Sam's roommate 3. The Twins and Sam's roommate in scenes together 4. The Twins and Sam's roommate survived 5. Sam's parents, in particular Sam's mom

Damn near everything. That movie was awful. It'd be shorter to point out things that went right with it, in my opinion.

I didn't like the designs of the robots in this one. They were too shiny. I had trouble following their movements. Aside from Prime and Bumblebee I found it impossible to visually distinguish one Transformer from another. This is a criticism of all three films - in going for a "realistic, organic" design they sacrificed individuality.

The problem was that the first one sucked, and they made another. I enjoyed the first one, but the sequel just made every glaring flaw in that movie that much harder to ignore.

It looks like a million bucks by comparison to DOTM.

It looks like a million bucks by comparison to DOTM. I liked Dark of the Moon a lot more than Revenge of the Fallen. Yeah there were some problems with it, but overall I thought it was a better movie than ROTF. Plus it gave us what we've been waiting for since a live action Transformers was announced, Optimus finally being the supreme bad-ass.

I loved the first one. Not a great movie, but a fun exciting popcorn movie. And I defend the abundance of human characters dominating a lot of the movie as they provide an "in" for the general audience not familiar with the Transformers other than they are robots that transform. And with too many CGI characters talking and fighting back and forth people tend to check out, you need some real in there to bring people back to reality.
But by the second movie they could have dumped most of the human cast and left it with Sam, Megan Fox, the army guys, and maybe John Turturro. By the second movie people are familiar with the Transformers as more than CGI robots and they can take center stage.
Lame juvenile humor, racist caricatures, and confusing stories make the rest of the movie bad.
But Jetfire was awesome.
