Just an entry level one, don't feel the need to be connected to the internet at every moment of time and space.
So, I "know" I want to add a cover to help protect it, plus an Airport base so I can work around the house with the 'Pad.
What I'm on the fence about is stuff like the camera kit for loading photos to the net (might be helpful since I take photos at meetings on campus and would rather just get them up and over with) and the wireless keyboard (since I would rather be typing, not tapping on the screen).
Anything else I should be considering, given what a major investment this is?

I would consider not buying an ipad at all, as I believe tablets are the largest waste of money a human being can spend money on. More so an ipad. If you're dead set on getting a tablet, the Samsung galaxy is hands down the best one you can buy.

I'm not sure since I don't have an iPad and have never used one, but I can very very very easily upload my photos to Facebook and other similar sites from my iPod Touch. I can't imagine that it's superior to the iPad in that way but I could be wrong.

Tablets are like laptops but only do 25$ of the functions, and in most cases cost double, triple the price. $699 for 64gigs of memory, are you kidding me??? *Throws a chair*

If you get an iPad... Go for an iPad 2. Much, MUCH faster. Also, tablets as a whole aren't bad as much as Android just sucks most of the time.
