Fizzled out for me once he and Cuddy hooked up. I'd say at Wilson's girlfriend's death. There were good episodes after that, but at that point was when it went off the slippery slope and from there you got things like the suicide.

Fresh Prince comes to mind. I really enjoyed that show's entire run.
It'd be easier to list shows that DID JTS, to be honest. I've recently re-discovered the difference between early 90s Rugrats and later 90s Rugrats. Show went on a hiatus for several years and came back in 1997, I believe. They must have shifted direction and let go of key writers or something, because both the babies and the show itself got way dumber. Angelica's whole personality was off, and so were some of the voices. Then the VO for Grandpa dies in 1997 and they try to replace him later on, but it's just not the same. This was all pre-Dil, mind you. People always say that's what killed the show, but I can easily see a drop in quality before he was "born". Rugrats went from being a A-level cartoon to like a C-level, and god knows how bad it got in the 2000s. I know by the end of the run pretty much all the characters sans a few had new VOs.

No way. "30 Rock's" quality began to dip in season 3, but in season 4 once Jack chose to be with Avery it never recovered. The story archs are under-developed and forced, the characters are reduced to one trick ponies, and the constant reliance on guest stars have stunted any sort of charm or quality the stories or jokes have to themselves. Comparing the absolutely excellent "this is going to be my year" Liz Lemon of season 2 (one of the best seasons of American television in the past decade) to the season 3-6 "look! it's tina fey doing gross nerdy boy stuff" Liz Lemon is depressing. Between Lemon not getting anywhere, Jack's boring venture into fatherhood and Tracy and Jenna being consistently staler and staler unbelievable characters, the show is an absolute mess that buys into its own hype and struggles to maintain its own status quo. I don't watch 30 Rock at all because it doesn't look funny to me. Every time I see a commercial for 30 Rock it usually features Tracy Morgan yelling about farts and porn. He might be the unfunniest human being ever spawned.

Breaking Bad. If anything, it's gotten even better with every season. this is exactly what I was thinking. Tracy Morgan might be the unfunniest human being ever spawned. this too.

Homicide: Life on the Streets was solid all the way to the end.

The only one I can think of is "Walker Texas Ranger". *Ahem*

Some would argue M*A*S*H never did. M*A*S*H jumped after Larry Gelbart left as the producer and Alan Alda basically took over. The show really lost a lot of appeal to me when Hot Lips became a more likable character, you still had a pompous Winchester to use as a foil but even he wasn't on the same level as Hot Lips and Burns. I empathized a lot with Winchester as he ended up in a front line unit simply because his superior officer owed him money.

I'll second Futurama as having jumped the shark due to pop culture jokes. An iPod plot in a show set 1,000 years in the future? Seriously? I really don't see how that's any different from old Futurama. They made pop culture jokes all the time. That was a particularly bad episode (though it did spawn the "Shut up and take my money!" line), but I think that season recovered nicely with the excellent The Late Phillip J. Fry, which I think ended up being one of the best episodes in the entire series. Season 6 was also a lot more consistent in quality. I think that's the double-edged sword with bringing a series back post-cancellation. Sure the quality might not be what it once was, but you also have to fight people's nostalgia goggles.

I think the difference is that while it had plenty of jokes on it, it never really made them the entire crux of a plot that much. When it did, like with Star Trek, it worked and generally made sense, but then you have things like in 2010 having a Da Vinci Code episode, or the iPhone thing. Plus the robosexual marriage thing, which was contrived as hell to set up, wasn't funny, then led to nothing. Still though, not the only issue I have with the show since coming back. It's good, usually, but sometimes you get the sense they're trying too hard. Like that Bender and Hermes one that tried so, so, so hard to be mentioned in the same breath as Luck of the Fryish and Jurassic Bark.

South Park Granted it's had it's awful episodes but as a whole I think it's still as awesome as it ever has been. Yeah, I agree with this. They've had some bad episodes but they have never gotten to the point of no return, in my opinion. All in all, I consider South Park one of the best long running animated series ever!

Buffy, but I'm a pretty biased fanboy admitedly. With that said though, even though the last season was pretty lackluster, I can't think of a Jump the Shark moment. Maybe the Buffy/Spike relationship? Have to disagree on Buffy. The insane asylum episode annoys me to this day. I was good with the Spike relationship. I love Spike, Whedon loves relationships that end badly, and it was part of Spike's redemption arc. I don't think Angel ever jumped the shark.

I started watching this on DVD. Loved the first 2 seasons, then The Producers season stopped me dead in my tracks. I've heard it gets better again but that season really turned me off to continuing.

Damn, The Producer's season is one of my favourite seasons, just behind s3. The episode where he buys weed and takes the hooker to the baseball game is maybe my all-time favourite. Same with the one where he near blinds Ben Stiller with a kebab skewer at his birthday party. The closest Curb came to jumping the shark was the finale of season 5, the one where he discovers his "real" parents and there's that fantasy sequence of him in heaven. It just felt very contrived and un-Curb like. Thankfully they recovered and the last couple of seasons have been pretty strong IMO.

Seinfeld. Sure the finale sucked, but all shows are allowed a few crappy episodes every once in a while. This one just happened to be the very last one.

Avatar only ran three seasons so it didn't really have time to take a turn for the worse. I do think season three wasn't as good as season two and the ending was kind of weak, but the show was still for the most part damn good.

A lot of people say it has jumped because the show is more like Friends now rather than a show about nerds and science which is how it started out. Me personally, I still like it and I dont care. I can understand that considering the girls get a lot of screen time now but I still love it. Amy for me is just as good as Sheldon is. How I Met Your Mother hasn't jumped I don't think, I've always enjoyed it. Fawlty Towers and The Office never had the chance really they both ended at their peak. Modern Family also hasn't jumped yet either imo.

Star Trek TNG and Star Trek DS9 Strong from beginning to end. Interesting you would mention TNG. General opinion among Trek fandom is that TNG's first two seasons were pretty horrible and the last season was a major step down from its peak.

I'm surprised only one mention of Seinfeld so far. The only shark jumping episode for me was the finale...but that was the finale and didnt start a chain of bad episodes. Seinfeld never had a bad season IMO and could have went on strong for a lot longer.
I'm also surprised to see House M.D mentioned among those that have not. That show has jumped several sharks.
