Okay, I did a thread about Hood movies, but now I'm doing one about Latino/Hispanic movies that take place in the "Barrio" which is what some people refer as the hood in Spanish. I don't know if a lot of people know about know about these movies, but I'll give a few examples:
-American Me
-Boulevard Nights
-Blood In, Blood Out: Bound By Honor (It's basically "Bound By Honor" but most people refer to it as "Blood In, Blood Out." The DVD cover has the full title)
-Mi Vida Loca
-I Like It Like That (Maybe, since it deals with Puerto Ricans mainly, but I guess it counts since I'm talking Hispanics in general)
I am sure that there are others, but I have mainly seen all but one that I have mentioned. The only one I have not watched in its entirety is "Bound By Honor" and I have mainly seen bits and pieces of it, not all of it. I have it, but I know that I would need 3 hours to kill to watch since I have read that it's really long.
I don't know if American Me counts since that mostly takes place in prison, but it does have to do with gangs as well. I know that there was a lot of controversy and backlash from real life gangs because of that movie, but I still think Edward James Olmos did a great job in that movie.
I remember watching "Mi Vida Loca" a while back and thinking it was decent, though the acting was a bit cheesy. Sure, the main girls were quite lookers like Sad Girl and Mousie (Typical chola names, I know) but some of the acting was still funny to watch.
I did say that "I Like It Like That" is debatable since the movie took place in the Bronx and had more to do with Puerto Ricans, but I guess it counts since it talked about struggles with the people in the community.
As for "Boulevard Nights," that was a late 70s movie with a very low budget and I have heard from my parents that it had some controversy hear in my homestate of California in that some people got into some fights at theaters and such. I have watched it before on YouTube and it is very cheesy by today's standards. I should also mention "Duke of Earl," even though that had after-school special written all over it. I am surprised that there is no page of it on IMDB.
Anybody seen any movies like these?
