I watch a lot of these shows like Bar Rescue and Kitchen Nightmares and others of it's ilk, and it just boggles my mind at how obtuse some of these owners are.
How can people do something for years on end that's a total failure and just refuse to accept any change at all?
I dunno, maybe it's just my nature but if I'm doing some activity and someone who's clearly better at it comes along and gives me pointers, I'm going to listen and adapt. I'm guessing that that's what most normal Human beings do, but some folks man.

You'd love my family. Especially my mother. Some people are just in denial and they can't or don't want to see the truth. Sometimes they do see it but they don't want to really confront it and do something about it. My mother uses avoidance when it comes to problems and she always hopes that any problems will go away on their own. Naturally they don't, they get worse, and then she has a fiasco on her hands.
I've seen her do this so many times in my life that I can't even tell you how many times it has happened. Sometimes she'll make the same mistakes 10 times in a row (and I'm not exaggerating).
I've tried to help her in the past and my reward was getting screamed at. So now I just let her be. It's really sad to see sometimes. So many problems could be easily avoided but I can't help her.

I'm guessing that it's because they like to do things the easy way, which is usually the wrong way. Then when shit gets all f***ed up, they start start seeking help...but then they're appalled that the mess they're in is their fault.

Admitting failure is difficult for some, and no one in their life ever taught them how to take blame. If you admit your business is failing, you are ultimately accepting it is your fault, and many people don't have the integrity to do that.

If people are being truly honest with themselves, most people find it difficult to accept failure and embrace change. Owners aren't so much unaware what's going on as defensive because they know they're failing. It's an ego defense mechanism.

Usually people who are so dedicated to failure actually don't think they're failing, they think they're doing it right and are too delusional to accept otherwise.

Because the producers want it that way.
Oh, you mean in general? Pretty much every one has it nailed. I also think that when people are challenged, they'll inherently fight back just because they don't like being challenged.

I find the concept of Kitchen Nightmares interesting just because it reminds me of my job. You'd really think lack of customers would signal something is wrong.

Because admitting failure is also admitting you f***** up. Admitting wrong is just too hard for some people.

You can't make this up. These were in consecutive order when I clicked on this link and to say that it's apt would be an understatement:

Usually people who are so dedicated to failure actually don't think they're failing, they think they're doing it right and are too delusional to accept otherwise. Just started reading the book Once Upon A Car about the collapse and bailout of the Big Three auto companies and this is the exact mindset of the heads of GM in the mid 2000's. Everyone: "Good God, you're going to go bankrupt and tank the entire economy!" GM: "Pffft. We're GM, that can't possibly happen. We know what we're doing, idiots"

It's the same reason a lot people start an argument when you politely correct them. They don't want the truth, they want to be right.
