Yeah it's a wonderful movie. I read on Wikipedia that they were originally planning to only shoot for a much shorter period of time for a PBS documentary, but ended up shooting for 4-5 years. I think Arthur has a foundation to keep kids off the street.

This was one of the films for my Cinematic Images of Blackness course.
A great documentary, and perhaps one of th best sports-themed ones. Incredibly thorough yet still intimate. Heart wrenching at times.

The guy who made the documentary did another that I loved called Stevie, about the boy (now young man) that he was a big brother to. Very disturbing but enthralling.

William played 2 games in the NBA (for the Wizards), then got his real estate license, and Arthur became a motivational speaker.

Great movie. The director Steve James did a non-sports documentary called Stevie that's also great.

I loved Dick Vitale's speech in the film (I think it was at some summer basketball camp before they metriculate to St. Joseph's). I just love his mannerisms while talking. Infact the speech would probably be just as entertaining with the sound off.
