Is my memory faulty or have ref bumps basically been nonexistant in the WWE lately? I don't have the best memory, but I can't remember the last time I saw one, maybe one the Miz/Cena matches?
I thought about this after watching some Impact Wrestling, which doesn't seem to be able to have a title match without one or two. I'm glad they aren't as prevalent in the WWE anymore, as they were so overused in the Attitude Era.
So is my memory faulty or is Black Ref and Nunzio and the new generation of referees just tougher than the Hebners and Nick Patrick's of old.

Now you mention it, I think you're right. It's pretty cool, actually.

It's funny you mention that because I've been carrying on my review of the year 2000 and on one particular episode of Smackdown there were 6 matches with 3 of them including a ref bump.
It's been said before but as good as that era was, the in-ring action was mostly garbage. Especially by todays standards.

It is great. It's a complete break from say, TNA, who have ref bumps almost every week. Ref bumps are fine when they're done every now and again, but not every week, it just gets ridiculous overtime.
I remember hearing about Eddie Graham, the inventor of the ref bump took some flack back in the 70s and 80s for over using them. I think he was the inventor of the ref bump, he may've stolen it off somebody, as the wrestling cycle of stealing goes.

Ref bumps are used to protect, alot of the time.
Either the top guys win all the time, and thus don't need to be protected, or they're everyone else, who isn't worthy of protecting in the first place.
Thus, no ref bumps.

It's a good thing. Makes the odd ref bump that much more special and so on.

During Burial's hog of the title it seemed like every match with him had a ref bump. You'll definitely see a ref bump during the Burials/Punk match at NOC though.

I'd like to think that this generation of referees aren't more fragile than a glass sandwich made of butter, so less ref bumps is a good thing. A ref shouldn't be KO'd for a full minute just from getting smushed against the turnbuckle.

Ref bumps are the first resort of a lazy booker, and the WWE booking team have got so many things right over the summer (Punk, Mark Henry/Sheamus, Bryan winning MITB) and this is one of them.

Good, it was overdone (that and bumps through tables).
TNA is still ref bump crazy. It elicits groans! Find a more original way to have your heels win!
