I'm never doubting Kampmann again after this.

Still don't find Kampmann that special but that could change with more performances like that.

Very good show in my opinion as a casual viewer. Very happy Chiesa won.

Syked to see Chiesa win, too bad Brookins lost, I like him too. There were some crazy finishes on this card.

Good win for Kampmann, huge set back for Ellenberger though. I'm guessing Kampmann/Hendricks next?
Honestly couldn't care less for the TUF guys, don't expect much from any of them.

Kampmann/Hendricks will fight to face Condit/GSP winner. Ideally, these two fights should be on the same card.
Now onto my TUF rant.
I don't care what you do with the format. Make it live. Do another comeback season. Cross promote with the Kardashians. Have Joe Rogan make them eat disgusting things. Bottom line is the concept is pointless.
What made the first couple of seasons work was two-fold, the UFC needed a way to get people emotionally invested in MMA. Best way to do it is by humanizing the fighters. Ten years ago, this stuff was banned. It was 'human cockfighting'. The negative perception of the sport was clear. Show a different side to these guys. And it worked.
By the time Griffin and Bonnar stepped into the cage for the contract, you knew their life story. You could relate to them. And delivering a really, really entertaining fight only made you root for them even more.
The other part of the success was that at that time, the UFC's roster was thin. There were only 5 divisions (and if I recall, the 155 belt was upheld after the Penn-Uno draw in the title tournament so there were only 4 title holders in '05). They needed depth. And because the millions who watched that first season guys like Kenny Florian, Josh Koscheck and Chris Leben were household names (by MMA standards) so they could help fill up cards.
But then after a few successful seasons, the UFC got bigger and deeper. Once they acquired Pride, the reality show became a glorified NXT. The guys coming up from that show were not nearly as well-rounded as the Pride and UFC veterans. There was a clear talent gap forming between the contestants and the guys on the PPV main cards.
So far, only three men who've won TUF have won titles. Griffin, Rashad Evans and Matt Serra from seasons 1, 2 and 4 respectively. Only two others who've won TUF have had title matches. Those are Diego Sanchez and Joe Stevenson from seasons 1 and 2 respectively. Lastly, only four men who've participated in TUF who didn't win the competition have had title matches. Florian, Koscheck and Nate Quarry from season 1 and Gray Maynard from season 5. Which means the last season a TUF participant has had a title match is season 5, which took place in 2007 (same year UFC bought Pride, ironically enough)
The success rate has been very low since season five. While guys like Ryan Bader and Roy Nelson have been PPV mainstays, neither of these men are anywhere near a title shot at this moment.
I understand the show has an important place in the UFC's history due to the reality that without it, I wouldn't be here writing this long winded piece about it. MMA in America would be drastically different no question. But 7 years this thing has gone on and a lot has changed in the world of MMA. I think it's time to ditch the show. But because this FOX deal probably included TUF on FX, this show and its dated concept isn't going away anytime soon.

^Couldn't have said it better myself. Outside of maybe Matt Mitrione, I couldn't tell you anyone from the last 10 years of TUF who I thought could make it to the top tier of their division, and even that kind of went away after his poor performance against Kongo. Other than that, most TUF guys from the past 10 years either are either prelim under-card guys, or are just flat out released. You forgot to mention that the acquisition of Strikeforce and WEC and the integrating of their talent makes the concept even MORE useless. I mean, why even bother having an entire season of mostly local guys fight for a lightweight contract when you can just as easily just call up Josh Thompson and Gilbert Melendez(who are already under the Zuffa umbrella and have Zuffa contracts) to fill up any vacancies that might pop up in the division.
