So with the news that the WWE has finally bought the Bill Watts Mid-South Wrestling/UWF library, it leads me to ask, what's left? What significant pro wrestling tape libraries are available out there that the WWE would be interested in picking up? It was already discussed in the Mid-South thread the problems with trying to buy the Portland and Memphis libraries, so lets talk about what else there is, why Vince would want it, and any problems that they might have with.

TNA...eventually.
As was discussed in the other thread, there's the Pacific Northwest Territory, or lack thereof. Not much to really buy unless someone discovers lost tapes. Just recently someone discovered lost footage of George Hackenschmidt in New Zealand.
There's of course the Memphis tapes which nobody knows who owns it. WWE won't touch it until that's resolved but it's unlikely someone would even spend the kind of money to resolve in court.
Maybe someone Puerto Rico stuff if Carlos Colon ever sells it.
Er.... doesn't Angelo Savoldi own some stuff from a Northeastern territory?

Just remembered that WWE doesn't own everything of the AWA. I think they're missing from about 89 to the end. But it's nothing special or probably even worth WWE's time.

Well I was trying to avoid bringing active promotions into this, but considering the talent that's coming up now, I think in the long run they'd be more interested in Ring of Honor's library then TNA.

They actually do own the end of AWA (theres team challenge series footage on the AWA dvd), but it would be nice to own WCCW from 88-89, if just for the austin and foley footage.

It was said that Buddy Rose had a lot of the Portland tapes people didn't know he had them til he died. And most of the GCW stuff is gone since Ole threw them out

They don't own World of Sport. It'd be a good thing to have if they wanted to start WWE network in the UK.

What about anything from Mexico, Japan, or Europe? This actually got me thinking of something outside the box - FMW. The companies been out of business for like a decade now, I don't know who would own its tape library or the rights to it, or how these kind of rights even work in Japan, but as near as I can tell nobody is actively using its name. It had a pretty solid cult following in the US in the mid-90's, some major US names like Terry Funk and Mick Foley passed through it, and even co-promoted some shows with ECW. Granted they might not be able to use a lot of the gorier stuf in todays PG WWE but I could see the appeal. Ok, since this keeps coming up, let me ask, why Portland Wrestling? I'm not terribly familiar with it, but other then some more old Roddy Piper footage, what would it have that would appeal to the WWE?

The GWF stuff, one would assume, is owned by ESPN, since ESPN was their television outlet at the time.
Portland stuff is virtually non-existent because they didn't save the tapes.
Memphis has no true owner of the footage.
All that is really left is all of the international promotions, and the Savoldi footage from the Northeast as far as the U.S. is concerned.

FMW distributed random shows in the US via Tokyopop. Not sure if they still own the rights to FMW or not. However, Shawn Michaels (who was still employed by the WWF at the time) was a special referee for an FMW match, so maybe FMW and WWF had a working arrangement, which may make getting the rights to it easier.

The Savoldis own the GWF footage. Now that WWE has bought Mid-South/UWF, the Salvoldis own the next biggest library that WWE would want. They have... World Class Championship Wrestling footage from the point the Von Erichs sold the company to Jerry Jarrett (1988-1989). WWE's World Class footage goes up to late-1988. USWA Texas (1989-1991) Global Wrestling Federation (1991-1994)
