What about anything from Mexico, Japan, or Europe? This actually got me thinking of something outside the box - FMW. The companies been out of business for like a decade now, I don't know who would own its tape library or the rights to it, or how these kind of rights even work in Japan, but as near as I can tell nobody is actively using its name. It had a pretty solid cult following in the US in the mid-90's, some major US names like Terry Funk and Mick Foley passed through it, and even co-promoted some shows with ECW. Granted they might not be able to use a lot of the gorier stuf in todays PG WWE but I could see the appeal.
Portland wrestling Ok, since this keeps coming up, let me ask, why Portland Wrestling? I'm not terribly familiar with it, but other then some more old Roddy Piper footage, what would it have that would appeal to the WWE?
well most of the big stars of the 70s and 80s have past through this area in Portland wrestling Including flair defending the NWA belt a few times But Andre savage the bushwackers Dutch savage dynamite kid rocky johonson and more spent a good amount of time here and had a lot of great matchs Oregon was a hot area in it's time That's why many of us current Oregon wrestlers are ashamed of what it's become out here

Agreed on World Of Sport being a worthwhile addition, although it would be a shame not to be able to get it on Freesat anymore. You've got the start of people like Davey Boy, Dynamite Kid and William Regal in there, and then there's plenty they could do with the British stars. DVDs covering the careers of Rollerball Rocco or Kendo Nagasaki could be very entertaining. Get some interviews with Regal, Finlay, and any others who would have been involved/watched at an early age.

The GWF stuff, one would assume, is owned by ESPN, since ESPN was their television outlet at the time. Portland stuff is virtually non-existent because they didn't save the tapes. Memphis has no true owner of the footage. All that is really left is all of the international promotions, and the Savoldi footage from the Northeast as far as the U.S. is concerned. The Savoldis own the GWF footage. Now that WWE has bought Mid-South/UWF, the Salvoldis own the next biggest library that WWE would want. They have... World Class Championship Wrestling footage from the point the Von Erichs sold the company to Jerry Jarrett (1988-1989). WWE's World Class footage goes up to late-1988. USWA Texas (1989-1991) Global Wrestling Federation (1991-1994) Angelo Savoldi (98 years young) lives in northern New Jersey. It wouldn't surprise me if WWE contacts him to make a deal before WrestleMania. Hell, he once owned a piece of the WWWF.

You know, something tells me that trying to sell deathmatch comps from FMW wouldn't really fit in with the TV-PG era.

You know, something tells me that trying to sell deathmatch comps from FMW wouldn't really fit in with the TV-PG era. If there's footage WWE wants to release with blood and violence, they will. They'll just put a TV-14 rating on it. Extreme Rules on PPV was rated TV-PG, but the DVD and Blu-Ray are TV-14 because of the blood in the Cena/Lesnar match.

What about anything from Mexico, Japan, or Europe? I'm curious how that would work as well since my pipe dream has always been for them to get the AJW library and start producing some awesome AJW/joshi sets because the stuff you could get from that library is amazing. History/Best of AJW Best of sets for the Beauty Pair, Crush Gals, Jaguar, Toyota, Hokuto, Aja, Bull, LCO, Kyoko, the Interpromotional Era... Best of the WWWA World Heavyweight Championship Best of the WWWA World Tag Team Championship Best of sets for the '80s and '90s And that's just off the top of my head. Maybe grab the GAEA and ARSION tape libraries too and you basically have the end all, be all of joshi up through the early 2000s with the exception of JWP and they're still in business right now so yeah. That and having the tape libraries would mean finally being able to (or easily being able to) put some people into the HoF that should probably be there like the Crushes and Jaguar. Again though I don't know who would own the AJW tape library (if it belongs to anyone person/group, if Fuji TV owns it, etc.) and stuff like that. Still I can dream. I can dream...

What about the Wrestling at the Chase stuff. They don't own that and I recall someone was selling the sets on DVD a few years ago.

Those shows were promoted by Sam Mushnick's St. Louis Wrestling Club. According to Wikipedia (the most accurate source of news and information in the world!), St. Louis was bought out by Crockett, who in turn was bought out by Turner. It should've been included in WWE's buy-out of WCW.

I don't know where the idea of Portland being hard to track comes from. I mean, I'm sure there's chunks missing, but there's a lot of it for sale on the IVPvideos.com.

Complete episodes, from the master tapes? Or VHS transfers of certain matches which someone taped off the local station? Word is the masters are long gone.

It's mostly best of comps, but the sheer scope and volume of what's available would lead me to believe someone has a sizeable collection of the full stuff available. I'd wager it'd be VHS transfers though, considering how much of the site operates like that.
