Heres what I never really understood though. If you gonna keep the vast majority of your continuity... what is the point in a reboot? Who exactly are you aiming it at? Because it makes your continuity even MORE confusing and oppressive to new readers that it was before because now they can't even wiki it.
Ah but thats another reboot conversation, I'm all ranted out about that.

they didn't really keep it, though. like I said, they only kept some of the most broad strokes versions of a few things and jettisoned the rest. the only books that really keep the same, or at least similar backstory are GL, Batman and Aquaman.

Ah well, its all ancient history now. Batman continues being awesome, Green Lanterns still awesome space fantasy, Superman is still not getting good stories and Green Arrows still being treated like shit. All is as is should be in DC.

Because shut up that's why! I'll answer this one: the War of Lights wasn't a crisis story. basically Geoff Johns' GL, Aquaman's recent history and Batman's entire history are almost exactly the same (he still died, but it happened at the end of Batman RIP instead of Final Crisis). everything else didn't happen now, or if it did, it was a VERY broad-strokes version of the same events (e.g. the classic Wolfman/Perez Teen Titans, the ones who still exist anyway, had adventures together, but it was informal and they weren't called the Titans) But then how did Anti-Monitor and Conner Kent die if not for Superboy/man Prime? How did Barry Allen come back if not during Final Crisis? I really hate partial retcons.

Astonishing Avengers? Is that yet another new Avengers team/comic? pretty much. i can't fault Marvel for it, though, it's good marketing. ditto the (probably temporary) changing of Thunderbolts to Dark Avengers (though I'd be confused as hell about that one if I wasn't familiar with it and just picked it up off the shelf because of the movie). it's better than DC waiting until 2 years after Watchmen came out to start putting out prequel comics (say what you will about the idea being offensive, it's just stupid marketing really, according to my LCS guy). I'm all for it, actually. The more Avengers teams there are, the better chances there are of at least 1 of them actually feeling like an Avengers team.

Avengers Academy has Tigra, Quicksilver, Hercules, Jocasta, and Pym as the staff, so I kinda see that as my traditional Avengers book

I hope at least 1 of the Avengers titles is willing to give me some classic Avengers goodness. Characters like Vision, Scarlet Witch, and Black Knight have been getting snubbed for far too long now.

If Anti-Monitor was retconned out of existence/never been met yet/etc, who was the power source for the Black Lantern battery? Half the people who were risen during that story were killed in one crisis or another lol. I stopped trying to think about it, but yesterday's Green Lantern just shoved it's hand up my colon.

I doubt it comes as a surprise to anyone that the DC titles whose continuity is the most screwed up are the oones where they insisted on keeping it exactly the same. Legion of Superheroes seems to also exist in some kind of bubble because they still act like Superboy (Clark as a teenager) was part of the team.

When do you think DC's gonna get on that "Joker doesn't have a face" storyline? It's been almost a year now since they cut that shit off.
