And no, this isn't a gimmick based on that dreadful Anonymous movie about William Shakespeare.
I was thinking off the basis of the "Would An Amish gimmick work" thread, but going in the opposite direction, more of an embracing of technology. It would be based off of the Anonymous activist movement, which exposes corporations and secret activity online. It would be a modern day update on the GTV gimmick, too. Imagine, during a show between two wrestlers, a video suddenly comes over on the Titantron showing one of the wrestlers in the match hitting on a female who's going out with another wrestler. This leads said wrestler to come out and confront the wrestler in the ring, costing him the match. Then there's more stuff that comes out onscreen. But it doesn't just stop there. Soon, other secret stuff starts popping up on WWE's Twitter feed, on their Facebook page, on TV in the margins, even on the Did You Know stuff. As Vince and the Superstars scrambles to figure out who could be doing it, things get tense backstage.
Slowly, teams start to unravel, people start stabbing others in the back, throwing out accusations. Eventually, one person anonymously comes forward, clad in a Guy Fawkes mask, saying he's the brains behind the operation, and explains that he's there to destabilize the ordered WWE system in order to overthrow it. He gives a date when his plan will come to fruition, November 5th (naturally), a Monday, and warns that there is nothing that the WWE can do, because he has more agents that no one knows about. This causes even more distrust amongst the wrestlers, as they race to figure out what this guy wants. One of the prime suspects is CM Punk, who most know as being a rebel who could be doing this as a way to get back into the title picture. Fingers are pointed, attacks happen randomly, chaos reigns.
Hopefully, this will coincide with a PPV on Nov. 4th (which I doubt will happen), and before anyone knows what happens, the guy uses a MITB contract to win the WWE title...a day before his deadline, throwing everyone off. And so, on Monday, with a mystery man somehow the champ (and no actual evidence on who could be aiding him), it's revealed who the man is behind the attacks.
So, whattya think? Good? Bad? Needs tweaks? I know some of the motivations would have to be worked out, but I'm spitballing these ideas out quick.
