To the fans of this show on the board, just how good is it? I've been thinking about getting into it for a while and am wondering if it will be a good investment, so to speak, of my time.
I'm not a huge fan of sci fi in general, but I don't care if the show is heavy on the sci fi. Just really want to know if its well written, well acted, and has compelling storylines?

I watched it about a year ago, blew me away. Near perfect show, aside from on dangling plot thread that never gets resolved.
Still, one of the best shows of recent years.

It took the promise of the original movie (hey, the pilot was played in theaters in a limited release) and ran with it in the right direction as opposed to the epic levels of cheese that the original series dished out on a regular basis. The show took chances, nearly every character developed in some way (even most of the peripheral characters), you never knew where they were going (in a good way), and it prompted fans to think about all of the possibilities that could arise (and then did something else to swerve the fans in ways that Russo wished that he could).
In short, it was pretty epic. I do recommend watching the two movies (Razor and The Plan) as well as the webisodes. They really do add to the experience.

It seems like the kind of show I would love. I watched 3 episodes and LOVED them. Then i never got around to watching any more for some reason.

it's really good, but fair warning the last episode makes Mass Effect 3's ending look like a work of genius in comparison.

The last episode was great.
One of my favorite shows. I loved that pretty much every character, even minor ones, had backstory and subplots. That made the series much deeper, since you were able to connect to everyone instead of just the main characters.

Absolutely phenomenal. Im a huge fan of shows like Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Firefly, Game of Thrones, West Wing, etc, but BSG is my favorite of the lot. By far. It's not Sci Fi in the traditional sense like most expect. Its more of a character drama that happens to take place in space.
