Gonna say it, f***ing love that he did that to Taylor, s*** was boring and that was the most hype moment ever. That was some Source Awards s***. It was mean, but awesome. One that I didn't like was him kicking out a whole section of the audience at one of his shows because someone threw something on stage and wouldn't fess up.

I fail to see the musical genius here. Never seen the dude pluck a guitar string, bang a drum, toot any horn, or even play a tamborine. As a performer he is entertaining but he is not a musician to me. Nor is he a genius. Oh and **** him that thing with Taylor Swift was rude and un-necessary

Normally, I agree, it's a tedious debate, but there IS a point there about Kanye. Is taking someone else's work and blending it into your stuff to make your stuff better really genius?

Is taking someone else's work and blending it into your stuff to make your stuff better really genius? The point he's making isn't whether or not it's genius, but whether or not it's music. Kanye West is a musician and has made some good music. The latter point is debatable, but in 2012 the former point is not.

There is no question that he is really good but that doesn't change the fact that he is most likely the biggest douchebag in entertainment. With Chris Brown about, he isn't even the biggest douchebag in his genre.

I'll say rap is music but its horribly overrated by the media in terms of calling all these people geniuses.

I think it's a bit unfair to dismiss his music on the basis of his being an asshole.
Honestly, I do that too, so this is a 'do as I say, not as I do' moment - but let's be real here.
Anyone who is intelligent, let alone approaching genius, anyone who is an innovator, has to be f***ed up. It's just human nature that you get extremes together.
Look through history at people who have changed things and you'll find that they are frequently massive arseholes, often lacking respect in their own time as both people and within their own medium.
Genius and madness go hand in hand. Kanye is a prick. An often unforgivable prick. He's also one of the greatest hip-hop producers in history. These things correlate.

Oh and **** him that thing with Taylor Swift was rude and un-necessary Everyone already beat me to it, but music production/writing beats/whatever you want to call it does indeed involve writing and composition. These are things he does on a regular basis, and has built his whole career out of it. And he is VERY good at it. You may not like it, that's fine, but it's pretty much unquestionably music. And I am also of the school of thought that sampling, when done right, is unbelievably creative. The only time I don't approve of its use, really, is when an artist samples a song so heavily that it's basically just that other song with some different words. Kanye has never done that. It's a cliche example, but for a fantastic example of AMAZING sampling done right, just go listen to "Paul's Boutique" by the Beastie Boys.

Also, not to be a dick, but I've seen Kanye play keyboards multiple times so he IS a musician even by this guy's limited scope for 'music'

By the logic of you must not be a fan of music or rap music, so you don't get to comment. Than I shall take that logic with me over to the tna and WWE forums and tell people who disagree w/me that they cannot have an opinion. Yoú are welcome to your opinion and I mine. I like older rap and R&B music because it was hot when my generation was the demographic they were after. But I could argue that those artists created the genre. In the opinion of the OP, West changed the genre. If I don't like it, it is a product of stubborness and changing tastes. I will never deny his success, but I just won't buy his music. That is the other side of the argument. As I recall(and it has been thrown in my face in here in the past too), we are encouraged to argue both sides. That is sort of the point of an open forum. He just dosn't do it for me.
