so would you buy a game and then be happy to pay per reload of a weapon?
random poll options given because i dont expect many responses to be serious.
personally i would not buy another E.A, game if my life depended on it while this muppet is in charge.

I voted "i like mlp:f.i.m.", but seriously, f*** you John Riccitiello. Why did you have to go to the dark side? You revived hope in EA when you came aboard and EA started making new IPs, but these last few years you've turned into Bobby Kotick Lite...... If Riccitiello has his way, all I can say is, please let there be another video game crash. Sorry, but being honest here. If that kind of thinking becomes a reality, the gaming industry needs another reboot.

i dont know if there is a difference in the u.s. but all the major e.a. titles are £5 more expensive than a normal new release, so for example from fifa football 2009 to fifa football 2010 they puut the prices up for no reason other than people would pay it.
*memo to self, next time leave the pony option for something else.*

Is that really Riccitiello? I know the guy's been turning into the new Bobby Kotick but that sounds way too sleazy even for him.

I think I'm just never going to get into this new generation of gaming where you perpetually pay for stuff. Dreamcast 4 life.

I voted f*** no but actually I wouldn't mind if was similar to how he said, if they were honest/clear about what would happen from the start, 75% of the game was free to play and they charged a resonable amount when it's time to pay.
In reality that wouldn't happen, you'd pay way too much for a download (no physical media in this future so they can charge what they want), then the DLC that should have been included from the start, then micro-transactions, then they'd hold your game hostage until you coughed up a stupid amount of money to finish it.
Btw are there any decent articles on how EA went from James Pond and Desert Strike to the company we know and love/hate today?

Btw are there any decent articles on how EA went from James Pond and Desert Strike to the company we know and love/hate today? realised a decent game = money, downloadable content for a game = more money, and then went money hungry. i blame the sports games division. they spend a fortune on paying for names for those and then decide to rip people off on every game.

Hell.....If they made it the ONLY way to reload, there'd be a problem. I'm going to give a similar Real world example.
Team Fortress 2.
The game is "Free". You can download and play the game all without EVER giving a dime to VALVE. Most of the weaonry you can buy from the store you can also either craft or earn through play.
If you want a SPECIFIC Gun/Hat/Etc you have the OPTION of buying it right then and there in the game......and use it the SAME session, but there is (Usually) no requirement to pay beyond impatience.
No necessary game mechanics are affected by acquisition or non-acquisition of paid items. A player that is playing "Vanilla" TF2 will be at a disadvantage to be sure......but most of the "earned" equipment simply encourage alternate playstyles over a marked advantage.
The only time that money HAS to be spent (As in there's no other way to acquire these items) are the "Mann Co. Crates". Essentially these are blindbagged "superior" versions of weapons that one must purchase a 1 time use "Key" for. Thse keys cost $2.50 Real money and CAN actually be traded for using the in-game items (I.E someone has to buy a key, and they can then trade that key for a premium amount of in-game items, but it's just as easy for someone to simply buy a key as well...it all balances out)
I do hate this because the Crates are one of the random drops......Most would treat the Crate as a boon, but I consider it a Zonk prize because I'm not sinking any actual money into this game beyond what i've already done ($10 total BTW, for the Starter kits for each class).
The idea thet is theoretically being proposed is if you're OUT of ammo, and have no way to get to a pickup you could spend REAL money to get a clip of ammo.
I DON'T AGREE WITH THIS PRACTICE.
One it would f*** over level design and make supplies scarce in-game, and if there's no way using in-game economy to get the same thing using NO real money, all you'd havve is people hoarding ammo.

Eh, I could not care less what EA does. I'm not a fan of sports games so I really can't even remember the last time I played an EA game. Yea, it's sleazy, but as long as other video game companies don't follow suit, I'll be just fine.
I don't think this downloadable content stuff is as bad as people make it sound currently. I've had a PS3 for about a year and I have yet to pay for any DLC. The games are big enough that I feel like I'm getting my money's worth, and I appreciate the fact that if I feel like shelling out $10 or so, I can get another week or so of playtime out of my games by downloading new missions or whatever.
I do think that it's bullshit to sell special in game items as DLC, especially if it's going to put you at a disadvantage during online play. Thankfully I don't play any games where this has been an issue.

E.a. do more than just sports & first person shooters though, they'll do this with every game they release though.
