The plot where all the main characters get killed off except the one who finds the MacGuffin that resets history back to the point in time before the incident started (usually the first scene of the episode), which has been used by every sci-fi show in existence. I've been watching Voyager. I think this happens twice a season. Voyager is especially guilty of this, yes. StarGate SG-1 was also a repeat offender.

The Half-Assed Character Replacement Episode:
Beloved character leaves, but don't worry, their more super awesome mega replacement is here to save the day in the next episode!
Many times, this results in the jumping of a shark.

Break up....get back together.....break up.....get back together.
"Friends" took this to absurd depths.

Many times, this results in the jumping of a shark. Space Cases is the first thing that comes to mind Voyager in a way too, with Seven of Nine and Kes, though Seven shows up a few episodes before Kes is (swiftly, randomly) written off the show.

Somebody goes missing and they spend the whole episode trying to find them, or in the case of LOST, two seasons.

Very special episodes, where the cast of a family sitcom tackles an issue that's usually more serious than you'd expect out of the show - drugs, alcohol, sex, etc. Usually involves some heavy-handed message at the end of the show about whatever issue they dealt with.
Teenage kid does something stupid, something happens as a result of that, and they try to hide it from their parents. The universe then goes out of its way to make the most unlikely circumstances and events happen, so that the kid will have to spend the entire episode working to keep his/her secret, only to get caught at the end somehow, punished, and taught a valuable lesson.

The sitcom episode where a Male Character is accused of cheating but in the end, it just turns out he's just been taking Dancing Lessons for his Anniversary/Wedding.
What a misunderstanding!

Oh man, I always felt that was the reason for Shelley Long's departure from Cheers, she didn't leave...but was fired because it became too much of a hassle to get her and Sam together without f***ing up the ratings. It seemed like everytime they tried it, the ratings dipped.

...and then the kid disappears. This happens a lot in animated shows.

...and then the kid disappears. This happens a lot in animated shows. Though it also is the fate of any number of characters from "very special" episodes, where they quit cutting, purging, or drug use just since someone told them how bad it was. Naturally, they have no further difficulties, outside of that they are now cast off into oblivion.

The husband screws up and has to make amends with his wife. Or to put it another way, every second episode of the Simpsons.

Husband gains windfall through poker game, horse race, Super Bowl squares, etc. Wife can't know about it.
The wife always finds out. Husband usually does something stupid to give himself away.
("Married...With Children" has the best take on it.)
