After watching the newly released trailer for "The Dark Knight Rises", it got me to thinking...did WWE miss their chance to have a huge Knightfall type angle with Cena and Nexus? (Needless to say, just the Bane breaking Batman part, not the whole followup with Azrael and the like.)
While he wasn't as huge as Bane, Wade Barrett seemed to have the cunning to equal him at the start. Take over WWE by taking out it's biggest hero and defender. Barrett and Nexus had Cena almost a broken man. His spirit was almost done for leading up to the Survivor Series match up pitting Wade and Randy Orton against each other for the WWE Title.
Now imagine Cena sticks to his guns and doesn't help Barrett nor gets the chance to screw him over...allowing Wade to pin Orton cleanly to win the title. The next night, Cena has that little glimmer of hope due to the fact he did everything Nexus asked of him and they promised him his freedom...just to crush that hope. Wade goes back on that promise, Nexus assaults Cena even worse than they did in their debut and they leave him in a battered heap, broken spiritually and physically.
Wade and Nexus run roughshod over the company and run WWE like Bane did Gotham after breaking the bat. Of course, we get the hero returning triumphantly at the Royal Rumble and winning. He's unable to get his hands on Barrett until the matchup at Mania, but he spends the two months leading up to it taking out his lackeys one by one. Of course, Cena defeats the great evil and takes back the WWE...cause he's the goddamn John Cena.
Considering it almost seems like they're leading up to an angle these days with Cena being attacked from every which way, they could still pull this kind of angle off. (But who would be the man to break him after the Rock possibly puts the cracks in him at Mania? We could go with the usual suspects of a monster like Kane/Show/Henry...but a returning buffed up Batista could do the trick.)
Then again, knowing WWE, we'd get the angle finishing with the fight against Azrael Batman anyways with Randy Orton playing the psycho Azrael role. You know they love their Cena/Orton matches.
