So I watched this while working out earlier, and I'm a little torn.
I know that D2D is wildly reviled as one of the worst PPVs of all time, but I also vaguely recalled hearing that the Extreme Elimination Chamber was one of the better parts.
That's not saying much, though. I enjoyed it up to the point that RVD was eliminated. Maybe I'm just not a fan of Lashley, but he seemed to have full-on Babyface Power behind his moves, because both of those spears got easy 3-counts as quick as a 2007-ish Cena FU.
Either that or I'm just so used to multiple kick-outs nowadays. Speaking of kick-outs though, since I wasn't watching during this period, I dunno if there was any reason for Hardcore Holly's exit being as awkward as it was, but I'll also say it shows you how damn far CM Punk has come to go from being eliminated before Hardcore Holly to today.
Other random observations:
- Test looks unhealthy as hell here, but he has his moments of acting boss, especially that elbow drop on the chair to RVD.
- Speaking of looking unhealthy, this was right before Big Show took the time off to drop a ton of weight, wasn't it?
- You can tell how damn stiff Holly's chops to Punk are. No surprise there.
- Paul Heyman's riot cop goons look more like they belong in an Asia music video. And I like Asia.
- When was the last time you heard the crowd chanting "Where's our refund" during a main event? Though considering that the final two were Big Show and Lashley... I can see their point.
- That was a s***load of pyro to close the show, with Lashley on the ramp. There needs to be pyro for title changes more often. Or even confetti like there was for RVD winning it in TNA. It makes it feel a lot more monumental.
- I don't think there can be any spot with a wrestler latching hold to the side of the chamber without Spider-Man being brought up.
- The spot with Test gouging the crowbar into RVD's forehead was sick. Actually, most of the Test/crowbar spots were, for that matter.
So yeah, while it was a bit... questionably booked in the finish at least, it was somewhat enjoyable if a bit groanworthy in spots.
