Before you start on me, let me just say that I love the push that Zack Ryder is getting, and I, in no way, shape or form, think he is being overpushed. Don't shoot the messenger.
I ask this because I've seen some comments in other threads by some posters saying that Ryder is being shoved down their throats. I've seen two reasons why people are saying that.
1. It doesn't make sense for a guy who was a jobber on Superstars at the start of the year to be winning matches nearly every week on RAW at the end of it. This is not a new phenomenon. This has been happening in wrestling for as long as I can remember, and often in quicker times. Like when Bradshaw went from padding out the tag division in March 2004 to being WWE Champion by June (admittedly after a gimmick overhaul and other circumstances). Or when Sheamus debuted on ECW in mid-2009 and was WWE Champion by December. If you're one of these people, the question has to be asked. What exactly would constitute a logical push? It took him 10 months to go from jobber to the US Championship division as it is. Do you think it should be longer?
2. The merch. At the start of the year, Ryder had only a $10 Basics shirt for sale. Now, you name an item, there's probably a version of it with the Broski logos on it. With Ryder now looking like a WWEShop advertisement on legs, some are seeing this as a sign of an overpush. However, I see this as a sign of him being a big merch seller, not quite at the level of guys like John Cena and CM Punk, but still big. Also, and remember this because it's important, nobody is putting a gun to your head and forcing you to buy his stuff.
Like I said, I couldn't be happier for the guy. He's gone from nothing to being one of the most over guys in the entire company. But I'd like to hear what the fair citizens of the FAN Forums have to say on the matter.
