What's annoying, though, is that WWE only thought to sign Del Rey after she paid $1,000 to try out for them. So they weren't watching around 10 years' body of work???

I thought if they're requested for a tryout they don't have to pay? I believe so. Anyone who gets an invite gets in for free, I'm pretty sure the $1000 fee is just to weed out the people who aren't really serious when the do the open tryouts. Hell, you might even get it back in the event you get hired

WWE SIGNING ONE OF THE TOP FEMALES IN THE BUSINESS by Mike Johnson @ 10:01 AM on 7/9/2012
As I discussed during the TNA Destination X Post-Game show, Sara del Rey, One of the top female stars in the world has been offered a WWE deal and is currently undergoing her pre-signing medical testing.
Del Rey was one of the showcase talents for SHIMMER's Women Wrestling and had strong showings and run in both CHIKARA and Ring of Honor.
From a wrestling standpoint, the company couldn't have looked to sign a stronger female talent.

I know I should be happy for SDR... but the thought of her losing in 3 minutes to Layla, Alicia Fox or even AJ doesn't really fill me with joy & happiness. But at least she'll be paid more to do it than in a year of indy work, and she'll be with friends and family.
(now, if they ever bring her in as Cesaro's ex gf, hellbent on destroying Aksana for stealing her man, I'd be willing t eat my words... but somehow i'm fearing she'll end up stuck in FCW for months & months)

Mercedes would mean the entire McMahon/Levesque bloodline was suddenly wiped off the planet. Could you elaborate? Was Mercedes blacklisted somehow? My bad. She hasn't been blacklisted or anything like that. What I was getting at is that this look: Isn't your typical WWE look. Combined with the fact that she's good but not great in the ring and really can't rely on stiff matches and bumps to get over...I'd just be stunned if something happened. That $1000 thing is nonsense. I get that it IS there to probably weed out the wannabes, but I remember Jim Mitchell telling Steve Kiern to go to hell when he got there and they wanted that from him. But back to the point at hand...Go SDR! ;D

I want to see Sara come out and make a big impact, maybe by squashing someone important or one of the 'skilled divas' (Layla, Beth, Nattie). Have her do what Kong was supposed to do.

Oh Mercedes is great alright. She had three amazing singles matches at the last SHIMMER weekend, and they were all three different kinds of matches. And WSU wouldn't have kept the title on her for three years if they only thought she was good.

Hard to get excited because even though the talent is there if they have nothing for them then WTF is the point of getting them? Similar to the reports of them not coming up with anything for Kharma, now I just don't care if she comes back or not. Actually her crying in the ring did that for me.
Anyway this is cool if they have a plan for her, same for PAC.

If true it's a huge step in the right direction. Add Melissa to the list and things would really be looking up. Anything involving Melissa on television = I approve

Perhaps the women will get more time now that they will have 3 hours.

So, what will her Name Randomizer(TM) name be? Paula Dabloon. Female pirate gimmick, six years too late.

I never thought she fit WWE's mold, but I hope they use her well and that she makes a lot of money.

GO Death Ray GO!
Kong and Death Ray in WWE? Could Vince finally be back to treating the divas better?

Getting rid of the "Diva" name would be a good start.

I don't buy it. WWE wants more of the model type than actual wrestler. Neither of these two (especially Del Rey) would fall under that category. With HHH running the talent show, we're starting to get away from Johnny Ace's "hire people in my own image - largely lacking in talent, but they look good" and more into a well-rounded hiring process. The bias will never disappear as long as Vince is still alive, but I can see the shift happening. While I am not as hopeful as many involving HHH's future regime, this is one area I am positive he will improve. I have seen an interview where HHH says the divas usually become the hardest to work with as soon as they do the Playboy shoot and I am betting he rather have women coming to the WWE, who are focused on their wrestling careers rather than to help them persue other careers.
