Yeah, you read it right. The WWE replaced Eye of the Tiger with Real American for Hogan's entrance against Bockwinkel in the Ultimate Anthology. It was probably so they don't have to pay Survivor or whoever wrote that song, but how lame is that?
It bothers me when historical stuff like that gets changed. Anyway it was great to see that match again. It was a classic.

Eh, they've got to make a profit; it's business. That song -- while not on Metallica levels -- probably isn't cheap. It's annoying, but it makes sense.

Eh, they've got to make a profit; it's business. That song -- while not on Metallica levels -- probably isn't cheap. It's annoying, but it makes sense. On one hand, yes, on the other hand, music publishing is such a soul-destroying overhead cost that I think Vince can be held accountable for what he chooses to clear and what he doesn't. For instance, "Happy Birthday" rivals the Beatles in terms of how absurdly expensive it is to use, and yet Vince springs to not only uses it for broadcast purposes once/twice a year, but to include it on countless DVDs. The money for that song (and most songs) isn't in the master recording, but in the publishing, so no matter who sings it it's a very pretty penny. YET, he won't pony up for "Don't Go Messing With a Country Boy" (just about the only WWE produced theme song they don't own a cent of the publishing of) for the otherwise perfect* Wrestlemania III set? That's just silly and benefits no-one, especially considering the audience throwing down for a perfect version of WMIII would likely pay an additional $2.00-$3.00 to get it whole and unscathed. At least the company attempts to match removed themes with a similar public domain/stock recording or will create a suitable replacement. The irritating bargain-bin techno replacing all the entrance music on the European ECW DVD releases makes the events flatout unwatchable. *That's the only edit I recall offhand, did they remove "Solaris" too?

I'm pretty sure they've edited out "Eye of the Tiger" (either dubbing it with Real American or silence) on almost every release where it was originally featured. Since "Real American" is such an iconic theme for babyface Hogan, and I became a fan long after he started using it, I've never had a problem with it.
The things that irk me are when they edit out songs that they either own the rights to or could cheaply use since I'm sure Jimmy Hart wouldn't put up much of a fuss (such as the original Big Boss Man theme or Demolition on the Wrestlemania DVDs).
