Just a random thought I had...based only on Hulk Hogan.
When Hogan first came to WWF (or was it WWWF at the time still?) he was billed as "The Incredible" Hulk Hogan.
First part of the name...Incredible Hulk, obviously.
Last name...well, Spider-Man's first issue had a wrestler character named Crusher Hogan in it (who was replaced with Bonesaw in the 2002 movie).
Just thinking Vince Sr. may have been a comic fan.

It's possible. Although the Lou Ferigno Incredible Hulk was one of the most popular shows on TV at the time.

Vince Sr. and, indeed a lot of the older promoters, liked "ethnic" faces and made the big Italian-American Terry Bollea into the Irish Hulk Hogan. Dunno how much, if any, the Irish aspect was stressed in the early days.

the origin of Hogan's names been stated several times:
"Hulk" comes from the fact Vince Sr. thought he looked like Lou Ferigno "Hogan" because its an Irish name and Vince Sr. was of Irish decent

It's tough, because you hear lots of stories about how people got started and got their names. Though Hogan could have came from Vince Sr, and the Hulk from Jarrett. Basically, I would believe anyone besides Hulk Hogan of course, who would probably say that Jesus came to him in a dream and gave him that name.

I remember that story from Hulk's book where he said Vince Sr. wanted him to dye his hair red. Apparently he refused because his hair was thinning really badly as it was anyway, and dye would have made it worse.
