"Pop punk" continues to ruin things I like, I see.

I dont know if were too old, i just never got silly pop punk, I like newer punk like AFI, or Dropkick, even Less Than Jake, but NFG and Bowling for Soup is what my friends and I used to call Pizza Punk, its safe and "funny" not what i want my punk to be. Newer punk? AFI started in 1991, Less Than Jake in 1992, Dropkick in 1996, and NFG in 1997. NFG is the newest of all of those bands, but I consider them all to pretty much be peers within the Epitaph/Warped Tour era of punk. And if you're comparing NFG to Bowling for Soup then you should honestly give them another listen. Aside from melodic, hooky chorus' the two are completely different animals. Like I said earlier in this thread, I highly recommend the album Not Without a Fight. Great stuff. Well being in my 30's that is all newer punk to me compared to Misfits, Social D, Kennedy's etc. It seems a crime to even put them in same category. I think its just what my friends and i were into growing up, that "punk" should not be poppy and goofy, i guess i would call LTG more Ska-punk. I will admit they have silly stuff too. I just never liked the whole pretty boy pop punk scene. Also not a fan of the whiney vocals. To me punk is not supposed to be polished and fun, a band like Madcap, or River City Riot, even Blood for Blood is more in line with my vision of Punk. I realise this borders on hardcore, but being an East coaster, I think the Street Punk is more of my view of punk. I think i may be contradicting myself now so I will stop...

Wow, I forgot all about Madcap. If you're into that stuff check out River City Rebels, One Man Army, Dead To Me, and The Briggs. Also, bad news out of Blood For Blood's camp recently. Yikes...
