The joke was supposed to be like that. Coach is trying to mock King for his age, but falls flat on his face by saying something dumb because...
Of course there were cannons in the 30's! It was Kayfabe.
Even if coach made it up on the spot, it was supposed to be a deliberate 'mistake'. You honestly think that Coach is completely unaware of the existence of cannons before the 30's?
Y'all got worked.

Don't tell me it was Pat Patterson related! According to the Scummy Urban Wrestling Legends, Virgil supposedly got his job from "unleashing his hose" on Patterson's desk. Certainly it wasn't his wrestling ability, if he was DiBiase's bodyguard for years. So yeah, it was Patterson-related.

Coach may be an idiot, but he had a Steelers jersey on last night. So that puts him in my good book.
Incidentally, is Coach from Pittsburgh? Is he a Steelers fan, or did he wear it to piss off the Carolina fans? I remember him saying something like, "yeah, my boys, the Steelers."

I can't believe people are agonizing over a stupid joke. Have you all never made fun of someone's age with a stupid joke like that? Sheesh. The problem is Coach's joke didn't make sense. It would have been a simple stupid age joke had he gotten it right (Such as by saying "when you were young" or something like that). He was incredibly off in his joke, it would be like saying "tv? they didn't have that in the 90s!" though even that is less wrong... Of course it didn't make sense. Jokes like that are supposed to be nonsensical. That's why their so stupidly amusing. Anyway, like someone else said, that "mistake" was accidentally on purpose.
