Whens the last time we had one of these. Not just King of the Ring, but random number one contender Tourneys or something like that?
Notable Tournaments include
Gold Rush Tournament - 2005 - Winner gets a title shot at Batista's WHC. Notable moments are HBK's superkick to Shelton and the final match, Kane/Edge, where Lita helped Edge win to turn heel. JR was PISSED, seriously, look for that match at the end.
Smackdown Tourney - 2005 - Winner gets the WM title shot for the WWE title against JBL. The final was at No Way Out, where Cena beat Angle.
Road to Wrestlemania Tourney - 2006 - Winner gets the WM title shot for the WWE title against John Cena. The final is HHH beating Big Show and RVD in a triple threat match.
Anyone else like these, I know a few midcard belts have had Tournaments too.

The tournament to determine the new WWE Champion last summer was the last one that happened, I think.

Not the most recent one but I enjoyed the IC Championship one with Punk vs Rey in the finale. It wasn't even for the title thinking of it, just to be the number 1 contender. Man how times have changed with midcard titles and that was only 3 or 4 years ago

The last tournament I can remember is the WWE Championship one the night after Money in the Bank 2011. Not only did they make the brackets give away the winners of the matches, but the end result (Mysterio winning) was basically made meaningless when Cena beat him for the title later in the night and Punk came back immediately after.

And the one before that was King of the Ring 2010, which was only used to give the winner a losing streak to play on some KotR curse that they just made up. I can't believe I'm saying this, but the WWE could learn a few things on how to do tournaments right by watching TNA.

The WWE doesn't do enough tournaments, and when they do, they seldom do them right.

I want a one night tourney for the WWE Title with like 16 guys. It's been almost 14 years since we had one of those. Throw out one of the gimmick ppvs this year and give us that!

Always liked the Deadly Game tournament at Survivor Series 1998.

They should have a tournament. It would actually be the perfect way to build up a guy.

Always liked the Deadly Game tournament at Survivor Series 1998. It was a mess match wise, but goddamn that theme was awesome.

They are doing one over the course of the next 3 or 4 NXT shows.

They aren't traditional ladder tournaments but technically all the Beat The Clock Challenges are tournaments, and most of them have important consequences.

I miss the old 16 man King of the Ring tournaments, especially when they had the last three rounds on the actual pay-per-view. Man, I'm a sucker for a good tournament.

Man how times have changed with midcard titles and that was only 3 or 4 years ago I don't think they really changed though. There was a bunch of nothing, then they had that tourney like they were trying to make the belt important, then it went back to nothing.
