Seriously, how long has it been since TV wrestling has had a slate of upper card/featured heels that the crowd actually enjoys seeing AND enjoys booing?
Roode, Daniels, Ray, even Zema Ion, Kid Kash when he's around...no dueling chants (or very minimal ones), just straight up loathsome characters people want to see get the holy hell beat out of 'em.
Seems like a silly thing to be all happy about, but they just seem to have it clicking right now. I feel like Bully Ray would be getting cheered if they didn't have things going just right, since he's such an incredible heel, but he gets the crowd to just hate his guts.
Really makes me want to see Prince Nana brought in, but then again I've wanted to see that since 2005.

I remember watching Destination X online with a friend and I remember my friend being upset at people cheering Austin Aries for being a face and booing Bobby Roooooooooooooooooo(de) for being a heel. It's a refreshing experience listening to the crowd react "how they should be".

TNA has done a very good job recently of making heels you can boo and faces you can cheer (although in the past they've been rubbish at it). Normally Roode would have a sizeable part of the crowd cheering him as he's a heel and thats what happens in TNA, instead they boo the hell out of him and cheer Aries to the rafters. I agree its awesome to see a crowd cheering and booing people rather than either silent or mixed about everyone.

Zema Ion is amazingly hateable. Doucheiness that rivals The Miz, gimmick that's a throw back to Gorgeous George, and he brags about breaking someones neck each week. I wanna see them push the hell out of him.

The main problem I had with WWE heels for so long is they're booked so weakly. You know they aren't going to beat the likes of John Cena because WWE booked them as not being at their level, which is (in my opinion) why a lot of the crowd don't like him. They don't see him as overcoming the odds, they see his as overcoming some guys who aren't as good as him anyways. TNA has been a bit better at making heels who actually look like they can win and look tough (Bully Ray especially) so people boo them and cheer the faces. Aries vs Roode was a case in point, a lot of people thought Roode would win, he may cheat but he was tough enough to stand toe to toe and only needed to do one dodgy move to get the pinfall. In WWE you'd need to land a jumbo jet on Cena to beat him sometimes.

Bully Ray should teach a masterclass on being a heel. You don't entertain, you don't pander, you aren't flashy. You get booed. You act like a dick, you are NEVER funny, you are NEVER entertaining. If you start to get cheered, you go into overdrive and MAKE them hate you. 'I'm Bully Ray, and I'm from NEW. YORK. CITY.'

Yeah, like at some point last year they were doing a PPV in Philly (might've been BFG) and Ray was getting cheered until he heeled up to the max in his pre-match interview and made them hate him. (Unless that's what you were actually referring to.

Heels can only be as effective as the faces they fight. I completely agree that it's the John Cena superhuman-style faces that make WWE heels ineffective and sympathetic.

Bully Ray is one of the best heels, but i can't boo him because i've been watching videos of him tormenting Christy, Val, and Borash. Its so funny to me how he stalks smack. Even as a face in WWE, his Smack talk is so funny. The delivery and the accent just makes him an incredible promo man.
now Zema Ion on the other hand, is the biggest douchebag i have ever seen to ever grace a wrestling ring. Triple H 2000 has nothing on him as far as "Doucheability" goes. Its not even about him bragging about breaking Sorenson's neck. Its about his persona and everything about him. That stupid smile and that stupid look on his face really makes me want to knock the piss out of him. And that's a good thing.

Yeah, that's the first thing about Ion that jumped out to me: his entire demeanor (facial expressions, his walk towards the ring, gestures, etc.) just communicate "I'm a complete douche, and I don't give a damn." Just natural heel charisma, and I hope he runs with it as long as possible.

I think it's a combination of things really and mostly thinks that have been said. First, TNA actually has likeable faces right now, who are naturally over with the crowd and not forced like WWE(see Cena and Sheamus).
Second their heels are doing a very good job, especially Bully Ray and Zema Ion(that guy is master of douchebaggery), and Bobby Roode is doing a pretty good job himself.
Most of all, the heels are booked stronger in TNA, most of us could buy Bully Ray or Bobby Roode cleanly beating anyone and certainly expect it as a possibility. When Daniel Bryan or Dolph Ziggler go in the ring with Sheamus or Cena do you see any chance of the first two winning? If there is no fear of the bad guys winning or being dominant, why would you boo them?
