18. Shadow of the Colossus (46 points) Developer(s): Team Ico Publisher(s): Sony Platform(s): Playstation 2 Genre: Action-adventure Shadow of the Colossus is an action-adventure game published by Sony Computer Entertainment (SCEI) for the PlayStation 2. The game was released in North America and Japan in October 2005 and PAL territories in February 2006. It was directed by Fumito Ueda and developed at SCEI's International Production Studio 1, also known as Team Ico; the same development team responsible for the cult hit Ico. Shadow of the Colossus is considered a spiritual successor to Ico. Along with Ico, Shadow of the Colossus was re-released in The Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection (ICO & Shadow of the Colossus Classics HD in the PAL region) for the PlayStation 3 in September 2011; it features high-definition (HD) graphics, content previously missing from the North American version, PlayStation Network Trophies, and 3D support. The HD version was released separately in Japan. The game's storyline focuses on a young man named Wander who enters a forbidden land. Wander must travel across a vast expanse on horseback and defeat sixteen massive beings, known simply as colossi, in order to restore the life of a girl named Mono. The game is unusual within the action-adventure genre in that there are no towns or dungeons to explore, no characters with which to interact, and no enemies to defeat other than the colossi. Shadow of the Colossus has been described as a puzzle game, as each colossus' weakness must be identified and exploited before it can be defeated. Cited as an influential title in the video game industry, Shadow of the Colossus is regarded as an important work of art due to its minimalist landscape designs, immersive gameplay and emotional journey. It received wide critical acclaim by the media and was met with strong sales compared to Ico, due in part to a larger marketing campaign. The soundtrack was also widely praised. The game won several awards for its audio, design, and overall quality. Shadow of the Colossus is also referenced numerous times in debates regarding the art quality and emotional perspectives of videogames.

17. Red Dead Redemption (47 points) Developer(s): Rockstar San Diego Publisher(s): Rockstar Games Platform(s): Playstation 3, Xbox 360 Genre: Open world, third-person shooter, action-adventure Red Dead Redemption is an open world action-adventure Western video game, developed by Rockstar San Diego and published by Rockstar Games. It was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on May 18, 2010. It is a spiritual successor to 2004's Red Dead Revolver.[8] Most of the game's story takes place in the year 1911, during the decline of the American Old West. The game follows John Marston, a former outlaw, while he sets out to hunt down his former gang members. Marston's wife and son are taken hostage by the government in ransom for his services as a bounty hunter. Having no other choice, he sets out to bring his three former gang members to justice. After the game's release, several additions were released for it as downloadable content (DLC). The Undead Nightmare DLC, which was also released as a standalone game, added a new single-player experience, in which John Marston searches for a cure for an infectious zombie plague that has swept across the Old West. Upon its release, Red Dead Redemption was met with universal critical acclaim, averaging 95% on both review aggregate websites Metacritic and GameRankings, making it one of the highest-rated video games for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on both websites. It won several "Game of the Year" awards. Reviewers praised the visuals, music, voice acting, open world gameplay and the story. As of February 2012, the Red Dead franchise has sold over 13 million total copies. IGN also praised the game highly, ranking it #3 on their list of best games this generation. A Game of the Year Edition containing all additional content was released in October 2011.

Mario Galaxy ahead Mario 64?I should have voted Mario 64 higher! Damn straight, it's miles better than boring old Mario 64 (even if 64 was an impressive technical achievement). I may as well post mine so far as everybody else is. 1. Super Mario Galaxy 2 7. Persona 4 8. Mother 3 10. Shadow of the Colossus 14. The World Ends With You

The challenges, the less linear progression,is way ahead of Galaxy.Tough Mario Galaxy 2 i cant judge,i didn't play it.

Is that focus on exploration and nonlinear progression that I don't like in Mario 64 (and Sunshine) as they don't feel like the same series as their 2D counterparts, something I feel the SMG2 finally fixed.
As you say different people, different tastes.

15. Suikoden II (54 points) Developer(s): Konami Publisher(s): Konami Platform(s): PlayStation, Microsoft Windows Genre: RPG Suikoden II is a role-playing video game developed and published by Konami for the PlayStation video game console and the second installment of the Suikoden video game series. It was released in late 1998 in Japan, 1999 in North America, and in 2000 in Europe. It was also released for Microsoft Windows in 2003 only in China. The game features a vast array of characters, with over 100 characters usable in combat and many more who move the plot forward. Suikoden II takes place years after the events of the original Suikoden, and centers around an invasion by the Kingdom of Highland of the City States of Jowston. The player controls a quiet protagonist whose name is chosen by the player (named Riou in the Japanese novelization and Drama CD adaptation and Tao in the manga adaptation); he is the adopted son of Genkaku, a hero who saved the City-State of Jowston in a war against Highland years ago. The protagonist and his best friend, Jowy Atreides, each gain one half of the Rune of the Beginning, one of the 27 True Runes of the Suikoden setting, and become caught up in the intrigues of the invasion and the dark fate of those who bear the halves of that Rune. Suikoden II saw a limited print run, and the lackluster initial response prevented a reprinting of the game. Despite this, the game was generally well received by the media, and was given high scores by some of the most prominent gaming critics. Gaming website IGN awarded a rating of 9/10, and the GameRankings website gave it a score of 81 of 100 based on 23 sources. GameSpot granted a lower rating of 7.6/10, praising its innovative gameplay but criticizing its similarity to the original Suikoden. Suikoden II remains one of the most valuable games for the PlayStation, commonly carrying an asking price of more than $70 USD from potential sellers, or up to as much as $150 USD for an unopened version of the game due to the game's limited print run and lack of reprinting. It is regarded as one of the rarest PS1 games. The popularity of Suikoden III helped attract renewed interest in II, increasing demand with the supply fixed. The game is regarded by many fans as the strongest in the Suikoden series.

14. Final Fantasy IV (54 points) Developer(s): Square Publisher(s): Square Platform(s): SNES Genre: RPG Final Fantasy IV is a role-playing video game developed and published by Square (now Square Enix) in 1991 as a part of the Final Fantasy series. The game was originally released for the Super Famicom in Japan and has since then been rereleased for many other platforms with varying modifications. An enhanced remake with 3D graphics was released for the Nintendo DS in 2007 and 2008. The game was re-titled Final Fantasy II during its initial release outside of Japan as the original Final Fantasy II and III had not been released outside of Japan at the time. However, later localizations used the original title. The game's story follows Cecil, a dark knight, as he tries to prevent the sorcerer Golbez from seizing powerful crystals and destroying the world. He is joined on this quest by a frequently changing group of allies, several of whom die, become injured, or become affected by an unfortunate occurrence. Final Fantasy IV introduced innovations that became staples of the Final Fantasy series and role-playing games in general. Its "Active Time Battle" system was used in five subsequent Final Fantasy games, and unlike prior games in the series gave each character their own unchangeable character class. With its character-driven plot, use of new technologies and critically acclaimed score by Nobuo Uematsu, Final Fantasy IV is regarded as a landmark of the series and of the role-playing genre. It is considered to be one of the first role-playing games to feature a complex, involving plot, and is thought to have pioneered the idea of dramatic storytelling in an RPG. The various incarnations of the game have sold more than four million copies worldwide. A sequel to the game, Final Fantasy IV: The After Years, was released for Japanese mobile phones in 2008, and worldwide via the Wii Shop Channel on June 1, 2009. In 2011, the game was released for the PlayStation Portable as part of the compilation Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection.
