How can any news agency show that footage of Seau's mother?
And after I typed that, I turned from ESPN to ESPN2 and they're showing it. Ugh. Disgraceful.

Can they seriously stop showing that footage. There's ratings stunts, and then there's being greedy f***heads. This is the latter I get that she did the press conference, but I don't need to see the damn footage over and over and over again.

We are at a major crossroads for the NFL. All this stuff about the Saints' bounty issues, players with head trauma and concussion issues, lawsuits- and now this. We are potentially at the primrose path for football. I was watching an hour long edition of Outside The Lines:First Report today when I heard about this (well technically I heard something about an incident in S.D. in which police reported to the scene but didn't hear about the particulars on the SportsCenter before OTL) and I believe the episode was supposed to be about the suspension of Saints players over the bounty scandal and just that before today's news caused the panel to recognize Seau's death. Since news of Seau's death included the mention of how there was "reports of gun fire" were heard from his home I kind of had the thought of "I just hope he didn't take anyone with him" because during that OTL episode, the host (forget who, but he was subbing for Bob Ley) asked his panel of ex-players about their memories of Junior I had the thought "If Seau took anyone out with him, then this is gonna feel like the Benoit tribute/ensuing aftermath all over again." Which is pretty bad when I'm happy that a suicide isn't a murder-suicide. Also, I'm sure that footage of the aforementioned OTL episode will be used some day in a documentary on head injuries in football in the director's attempt to make his movie seem "poignant". This also saddens me, because I remember Junior Seau seeming so stoked before The New England Patriots left for Phoenix for Super Bowl XLII (since he had a previous unsuccessful SB chance as a Charger) where he lead the crowd seeing the Pats off in a "Hip-hip hooray" chant, and prefaced the chant with "As long as you're living you still have a chance" or something to that extent.

Didn't he possibly try to commit suicide a few years back via auto crash? He was one of my favorite players back when he was with the Chargers.

That and the fact that Deadspin is still linking to that old "Five People Besides Junior Seau Who Drove Off A Cliff" story from another website which is really disgusting.

Godspeed, Junior Seau. One of the best, if not the best, linebacker of my generation.

They passed it off as him falling asleep at the wheel, and maybe that's still what really happened, but now I'm not sure at all.

Sad news. Even given how it ended in the playoffs, 2007 was a great time to have him.

I wasn't a fan of the Chargers growing up, but I knew the name Junior Seau. I knew he was a beast. And later on, I knew of the gentle giant off the field with a hard working attitude and caring nature.
Him and Tedy Bruschi were the only two Patriots I couldn't boo even when I despised the Pats back in the mid 2000's.
Again, R.I.P. Junior Seau. Hopefully, your family will find peace.

That is crazy!! I used to have his Rookie card and his Monsters of the Gridiron card was pretty cool too. I used to kind of like him when he was on the Chargers, then he became a nemesis when playing for the Pats....but I always admired his skill no matter what.
It's a shame his life ended the way it did.

Stan Humphries is probably wearing a pillow over his head carrying around a pool skimmer and has a sofa cushion duct taped over his torso right now. In all seriousness though, this sounds exactly like Dave Duerson all over again. The problem right now is that while you can attempt to take concussions more seriously from this point forward, you can't go back 30 years and prevent them from the long-term effects it's had on the thousands of guys who've played this violent game. I'm afraid this won't be the last story we hear like this. R.I.P. Junior Seau

This is reminiscent of a wrestling death. I would wager that concussions, and painkillers played some sort of role in his self destruction.

I think the fact that he was a linebacker and never missed time for a concussion tells us that much. And I think when the Sports Legacy people get his brain, they will find CTE was occurring.
