See October is normally a slow month for me.
Now that the annual Halloween costume party has ended. Most indies start slowing down come October.
Sure some of the movies get watched on my tablet on the ride to a show. Then reviews written on the ride back.

Part new post, part copy-and-paste from the "Track Your Movies" thread.
SATANIC HISPANCIS is now on Shudder and it's a big recommend from me, a guy who likes anthologies with absurd comedy segments. Please take that with as much salt, sugar, or broken glass as possible.
I watched two movies titled FOLLOWERS. One a sequel to a movie I haven't seen, but it thankfully recaps the first film in the first 15 minutes. An influencer and friends are attacked by a masked assailant and manage to defeat him. A year later they meet up and are ambushed by multiple home invaders inspired by the original attacker's "legacy." Yes, it's Incel "You're Next" but nowhere nearly as fun. Rough stuff at points. My review on Letterboxd led to the director following me on Twitter and...I don't know how to feel about that, yet. It's new on SCREAMBOX if any one else did the year long deal that I posted earlier in the thread.
The other about a British Influencer who embarrassed himself on a reality show and is now "on a journey" to make himself right in the world...by exploiting the fact the new place he's moved into may indeed be haunted. As things ramp up, instead of bailing, he (and his roommates) keeping digging for likes, shares, and subscribes and it's all leading to a very bad ending that goes in a direction I never saw coming and really saved the film after a slow second act. It's on TUBI because most off the wall things are on TUBI.
Kind of bummed that IMAGINARY is getting harsh reviews and didn't do well. I hate when Blumhouse has stutter steps because I enjoy the type of crazy they let happen on screen.

In the event you needed proof Rotten Tomatoes is an absolute sham of a website, Leprechaun 3 has a 0% on there.

Lep 3 is the Vegas one?
If so that is one of the better ones.
So today/tonight became indie horror sequels night.
Up first was Camp Blood 8,actually the 10th or 11th film in the franchise. This time the clown killer is the original's son. Coolduder from YT appears as a coonskin cap wearing survivalist. And the interesting twist happens 1/3rd of the way into the film and then gets negated 4 minutes later. Way better than I expected. And not having seen the previous films I wasn't lost. On Tubi.
Return to Splatter Farm the long awaited sequel to the Poloina Brothers cult classic Splatter farm.
Decent but not having both brothers huurts this one. The gore is better than the original. The acting too. Not a film I would buy. But was free on TUBI.

Finally broke down and bought the Texas Chainsaw Massacre 4k.
So now I have owned this film,my favorite movie,on VHS/DVD(2 times)/Lasserdisc/Blu ray/4k
Got it playing and man this looks amazing. Still wish they would release a version that looks like the beat up print I saw at a drive in back in 78.

Was talking to a buddy, who told me SCFY was showing the Leprechaun films.
Which lead to us arguing over if the Leprachaun has a name. I said he did and it was Lubdan. He said he didnt.
Seems he is named Lubdan. But this was only revealed in the hard to find Leprechaun comic book that Bluewater did. This series was never finished. But Bluewater got started on a never published Leprechaun vs Warlock mini series.
Made me realize I need the Warlock films on Blu Ray. And ordered that Vestron Video set of all three.

Supposedly his name was originally meant to be Basil, which has led to some fans and wikis giving that as his name or the name of his "brother" that appears later in the series. A few also give the leprechaun the last name of Buttowski which is.... hmmm. Probably not right, but I'll admit I'm not up on the franchise's deep lore.
I may still know entirely too much about Leprechaun though.

Re-watching The Lodge.
{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW} In the annals of horror history very few events go so horribly right as Aidan Hall's (Jaeden Martell) aka young Bill aka that patronizing puke Henry aka "the Nazi child masturbatin' in the bathroom" and his sister Mia's cruel and short-sighted stunt.

Started up Cocaine Cougar on TUBI.
Only 50 minutes long and so far 6 minutes of that was taken up with credits and some terrible screamo music.

Found the newest Terror Vision Blu Ray at Walmart of all places.
Malum is the name. Never see boutique stuff outside of online stores.
Took a chance and dropped 20 bucks on it.

Anyone have any Massacre Video DVDs or Blu-rays?
The reason I ask is because I was reading about one of their films, Philosophy of a Knife. It’s a Russian horror movie about Unit 731 that is over 4 hours long. I guess it’s for folks who thought Men Behind the Sun didn’t go far enough.
I don’t know if I’ll ever manage to get through Philosophy of a Knife, but Black Devil Doll From Hell and Tales From the Quadead Zone are sitting in my unwatched pile now. I’m hoping to get to those soon.
For March the only horror I’ve been able to actually get to are some of Ray Dennis Steckler’s horror/porno hybrids and the first two Annabelle movies. If Red Heat (1976) didn’t have all those badly filmed hardcore scenes it might be Steckler’s best film of the 1970s. It’s like a proto-slasher starring Las Vegas star, Lovie Goldmine as a woman scorned who then goes on a killing spree.

I can not stress how much I don't want a Ready or Not 2, particularly from the director they're courting.

But Philosophy of a Knife is one of the few films I just couldn't finish. It's length was a factor. Got 20 or so of my 31 films for October picked out. Recently all I have watched was Ash Vs Evil Dead. Season 1 and 2 were good. Need to start season 3 soon.

So back in late February, I watched a handful more 2023 horror flicks. I meant to talk about them and then time just kinda got away from me.
SUITABLE FLESH (2023) is a Shudder Original, based on HP Lovecraft's "The Thing On The Doorstep". It sees an attractive psychiatrist (Heather Graham, BOOGIE NIGHTS) take on a college-aged patient (Judah Lewis, THE BABYSITTER) who appears to suffer from multiple personalities. The psychiatrist finds herself strangely drawn to this patient, who reveals that this isn't simply a mental disorder, but rather another entity is actually taken over his body!
SUITABLE FLESH is weird, erotic, funny, and gory. I liked it a lot.
RENFIELD (2023) is a Universal film focusing on Dracula's (Nicolas Cage, COLOR OUT OF SPACE) beleaguered minion (Nicholas Hoult, THE MENU). Renfield joins a support group for people in toxic relationships as a means of finding suitable victims for Dracula to feast on. But in so doing, Renfield himself realizes that what he has with Dracula IS a toxic relationship. As Renfield strives to better himself, he befriends Rebecca (Awkwafina, SHANG CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS) a police officer who frequently tangles with a local crime family. Dracula's feeling of betrayal will cause him to seek assistance getting revenge on Renfield in the form of that same crime family.
Not a LOT of horror in RENFIELD, it's more of a supernatural buddy cop comedy, though there's copious amounts of over-the-top CGI gore. I still found Renfield and the support group charming and liked his attempts to better his life. It's an enjoyable picture.
INFINITY POOL (2022) comes from writer director Brandon Cronenberg (POSSESSOR). The film focuses on a struggling author (Alexander Skarsgard, THE NORTHMAN) at a vacation resort with his wife (Cleopatra Coleman, COBWEB). The author meets a woman (Mia Goth, PEARL) who likes his last book and they quickly spark up a relationship. A drunken night with the author, his wife, the young woman and her husband leads to killing a man in a hit and run, which then leads to the author finding out about this far-off country's bizarre view of crime and punishment. Instead of receiving the penalty for his crime, the author agrees to have himself cloned and the clone will be put to death in his place. Watching this ritual has a bizarre effect on the man's personality.
When he meets back up with his fan, she and her husband reveal that they are part of a larger group of people that have similarly been cloned and watched their clones be put to death for their crimes. These people, all rich, essentially live a life without consequences and get into more bizarre and dangerous antics as their vacation goes on. The author goes along with this behavior, causing a rift with his wife. But are the author's new friends laughing with him...or at him?!
Lots of trippy visuals and great performances. Mia Goth continues to play morally dubious characters well. A very thought-provoking film, I think this was actually my favorite of last year's releases. Really really well done!

Slowly making my through When Evil Lurks. This movie rules.
The dog attacking the little girl has gotta be up there as one of the all-time scares. Also, it's just plainly and simply upsetting to watch.
