I'm looking to get a video game tomorrow and was wondering if any of you fellow fannies can give me a tip on what to get. I want to get something for any of the consoles (doesn't matter which one) that's not too story heavy and has good "pick up and play". Also it has to be fun.
I've heard good things about "Bulletstorm". But I don't want to play it thinking "this is just going to be fun and relaxing and light gaming. Shooting people from point a to point b." and then finding out "oh jeez, this is too damn hard! Too much story! 'Choose which hand to pick your nose with'? ARRRRGH!!! JUST! WANNA! HAVE! FUN!" I dunno, is Bulletstorm a good game?
If not, could you recommend a game I may not have even considered.

You should get Vanquish. Third person shooter that just embraces insanity and what is awesome and even has a button to smoke a cigarette while under cover.
Story mode isn't too difficult but the challenges can be absolutely ball-breaking because it's by Platinum/ Clover so its to be expected.

Lately I've been playing Kid Icarus: Uprising. It's a lot of fun, though I should warn that you can't really play it for long stretches due to the nature of the controls. And it is pretty story-heavy, but that occurs almost entirely within gameplay so it's not distracting.

Difficulty may be a problem but other than that, pretty close to what I had in mind. Lately I've been playing Kid Icarus: Uprising. While it does look great and I enjoy my 3DS, I'm looking for something more of a home console as opposed to a hand held. {Spoiler} Unfortunately I don't have a Kinect. But otherwise, 6 stars all the way! (dear Mr Hogan, if you are reading this I will allow you to use the above review on the boxart for the Game of the Year edition)

Do you like fighting games at all? If so, Skullgirls on XBLA (or PSN if you have a PS3). Best $15 you'll spend this year.

LA Noire's pretty good. Combination of thinking, driving & shooting/fighting works pretty well.

Saints Row the Third is definitely fun and a pick-up-and-play game. I've 100%'d it and I still pop it in from time to time just to do random crazy stuff.

I dunno, is Bulletstorm a good game? If you want a game without much of a story, then Bulletstorm would be a pretty good choice. It's pretty much the definition of "shooting people from point A to point B". It's full of action and has some interesting and innovative gameplay elements (the leash is really cool). The SP is short, maybe 6-10 hours, but satisfying. If it's cheap, I'd recommend giving it a try. Crazy weapons, profanity, tons of action, massive monsters... it's basically everything that Duke Nukem Forever should've been.

Yeah, Saints Row: The Third is pretty fun and definitely pick-up-and-play. There is a story to it, but it is so f***ing over the top that the story doesn't really matter. For f***'s sakes the game starts with the Saints robbing a bank disguised as themselves, and it just gets sillier from there.

If you just want something that's just fun and mindless then I'd recommend Bayonetta where every button mash sequence makes a new unique combo move and has ridiculously epic boss fights. It's been out a good while so you could pick it up pretty cheap too.
There is a story to it (which is pretty damn wacky), but you can just skip the cutscenes if you want.

Got it for an early B-Day present and hasn't been out of my PS3 since. Hijacking cars, blowing up stuff with a rocket launcher, plowing people over with a tank, I love it! Love it, I say!
