I've noticed lately that my PS3 is freezing up and crashing a lot more than it should be. I'm not blocking the vents or using any hacked firmware or anything like that. Any advice on what it could be?

it's going to die.
try taking it to someone who is licenced by sony or to sony themselves to fix it or stave off its implosion date.

Try deleting the game data and then doing a clean install?

Try deleting the game data and then doing a clean install? Minor update involving that advice: I'm having problems with MW3 as well now. I tried deleting the game data many times and doing a reinstall, but no luck. I can't figure it out, I've tried every other PS3 game I own and they all boot up and play perfectly. But for some weird reason MW2 and 3 just don't want to work. Could it possibly be an update that just messed it up? I haven't played either in about 3 months until now.

I suppose I could try the whole "Disc exchange" thing Activision has, but my MW3 disc is as pristine as it gets. Ugh.

You think it could be a scratched disc? Or even a disc with a hair in an inopportune space? I've been having a similar issue with WWE '12, but then again, it's WWE '12.

I'm wondering if I should try one of those laser cleaning kits, but the fact it's ONLY these two games is a little suspicious to me.

Mine was freezing up like this and then the blu-ray lazer died. Haven't felt like reinvesting the $150 to get this fixed.
Good luck.

You're probably about to get the YLOD (yellow light of death).
I recommend backing up all of your save files. My PS3 died a few weeks ago playing Mortal Kombat and I hadn't backed up my saves in a couple of years, so I was screwed. I took extremely good care of my PS3 but I've had it since 2007. I think they're basically made to die eventually so you have to buy a new one.
And rumor has it that a price drop to $199 is coming at E3, so I'm waiting until then to buy a replacement.

If it's because of that and it does die, I'm just gonna switch to Xbox 360. Most of my games have 360 versions so it wont be too bad. LittleBigPlanet 2 though... EDIT: Update time again! I vacuumed out the vents (which were REALLY dusty) and it's working fine as far as I can tell. I traded in MW2 and 3 because I was bored of 'em, but SSX is working flawlessly so far.

I started having problems with my PS3 last week. I turned it on and the picture got all distorted. The machine also got really warm. I took a can of air, and blew out all the vents. I have to unplug the machine, leave it unplugged for awhile, and I'll be able to play it for a few minutes, only to have the picture go all whacky and again. And if I turn it off and try to start the machine again right after, the machine just gets all distorted right away. So I'm going to trade in most of my games in (I don't have many) and the controllers I have and get the Xbox 360 versions of any games I can get (the only game I can't get is Infamous 2).

That sounds like it could just be a messed up cable dude. Or your resolution got set wrong. Though using the air can probably caused more problems, if something is over heating the last thing you want to do is blow stuff in, you need to suck it out. Trading it in a drastic step when you dont know what is wrong.

Well I've pretty much exhausted all of my ideas to get it to work, SSX is now starting to jitter and freeze like MW3 did. Anyone know how Sony's rates are for repairs?

I'll have to try the vacuum thing.
