I used to be a cute kid. Real plucky.
Now I have a beard and an eyepatch. My drinking has ruined my life and my wife left me 6 months ago. I hold a knife like I've used it before. As I take a slug from the bottle I swiped from the liquor store, I ponder the sweet, painful freedom of living on the street. I steal what I need, and I sell what I don't.

There are times when I can't look at myself in the mirror anymore. Battle scars everywhere, reminding me of what I've become. A missing eye, a hand lost due to a fight. The most recent: a leg after a serious case of drama and tears. I can't bear it, but one day I have to look at me in the eye, staring at the mirror, and finally say that I look like a pirate.
