I don't want to make light of this but I really find the timing of this really bizarre. Just yesterday on my Facebook feed, The Onion posted one of their joke articles and it said something along the lines of "Nation Celebrates Week without Gun Rampage". Then this happens. Weird. I feel bad for the people and my heart goes out to the families of the victims.

At what point do we have to reach before any in the gun lobby will willingly discuss improving regulation? Note that I did not say taking their precious guns away (I actually enjoy shooting guns myself), but just regulation. These are the same people that pitched a fit and threw a lot of money to make the suggestion of adding tracking stamps to shell casings in order to better investigate crimes committed with guns. If you want to buy a semi-automatic rifle would it really kill you for there to be a 2 week waiting period? How many people have to die at the hands of madmen before we consider the fact that the majority of these shootings happen in a country with obscenely lax gun regulation?

Really, REALLY glad I didn't decide to try out the bus route I've been scoping out recently.

Yeah, it's being reported on the local news that the shooter was a disgruntled employee who shot and killed their former manager who let them go.
Dr. T: I'm not really sure if tougher gun laws would've prevented this latest shooting, especially since New York City (and the entire metro area for that matter) has really strict gun laws. A shooting like this in the middle of Manhattan is also very rare since NYC is really damn safe, especially for a city of its size.

As important and complicated an issue as it can be, I would appreciate it if we didn't delve into this, as gun law discussions all but instantly become political ones.

Is there a difference between legal and political for the sake of the rules?

So how long until studios are forced to delay the release of movies with the Empire State building in them so they can edit it out?

Fair enough, though I think that it is asinine that it actually is a political issue (and again, I get their appeal.)

It's kind of annoying how this is like "SHOOTING AT EMPIRE STATE BUILDING, 10 PEOPLE SHOT!" or whatever while practically glossing over that most of those people shot were caught in the crossfire when police opened fire on the guy.
Honestly that should be enough to shut people up about the whole "Well if I had MY gun THIS would've never happened" garbage because when cops from the most militarized police force in the world can't avoid hitting innocent people in a chaotic situation what does that mean about the schmuck who has his guns in order to protect himself from Obama's S.S. troops or whatever?
And these incidents, the going postal type ones, are probably going to get even more frequent as economic conditions continue to deteriorate I think.

Yup. They're the only people who shouldn't be f***ing up in situations like this, especially this bad.

In the NYPD's defense, that area around the Empire State Building is always really, really busy. I don't think there would have been any way that nobody got caught in the crossfire there.
