It's taking alot of time to download, I'm about 2 hours in. I've heard good things about it though. Can't wait to play it personally but what are other people's experience of this game?

Yes, the game is worth it. So worth it. At least for me, as I play it on PS3. It is easily the best MMO on a console. Granted, that doesn't really say much, because:
1) MMOs on consoles are rare.
2) Most console MMOs are shit.

It's alright. Before it went F2P, I felt I got my money's worth ($60+subscriptions). While it does have a few bells and whistles, it's still a MMO at the end of the day.

In some ways, it's worth it just for the character creation as it's almost impossible to not make somebody who looks badass.
The game itself is fun as hell... can get repetitive in missions, but that's all MMOs. Definitely a fun time-sink.

Is it really good as a free 2 play or do you basically need to pay for the extra stuff?
I have been thinking about getting into it myself

I honestly keep forgetting that this game was released. After the GL pack & free conversion, I've heard nothing big released.

The only true limiting factor, at least for me, is the 2 character slots you get as a f2p player. Other than that, you have access to most of the game, and can go to level 30. You are somewhat limited in the character creation in that you need to buy certain power sets like the Green Lantern powers, but overall you shouldn't have trouble.

I think if you buy the power DLC's, you get upgraded to the next tier that opens things up to 6 slots. Which is still pretty paltry (and even the subscriber max slots are pretty limited compared to MMO's like WoW that give you a shitload), but at least it's better than 2.

Only downside I have come across is that it takes forever to gain more respect in the groups.

Great MMO for the PS3. Definitely worth it. I've barely scratched the surface and it really is an impressive MMO for a console.
But if you are downloading it for a PC, dont bother. Champions Online is a better superhero MMO, you get alot more things in Champions than in DC Universe. The Customization and archetypes are also better in Champions. Not to mention the game is less demanding than Minecraft, which says alot about the requirements needed to play. But the Graphics are still top notch late PS2, early Xbox graphics depending on your settings.

Which is still pretty paltry (and even the subscriber max slots are pretty limited compared to MMO's like WoW that give you a s***load), but at least it's better than 2. I thought it was enough personally. Enough for one of each type of power group, movement group and mentor, so ya get a good range of experiences. I enjoy it. Still play as my villian mainly, started as a dude in a suit with dual pistols & gadgets, now at Level 30 he's a huge dude with pistols, armour and a mixture of Superman & Batman's powers. Kicks ass in PVP!
