Then that would mean that was a sentient backpack, and if we are at the point that backpacks have gained sentience, then we're all f***ed. I can understand robots or toy soldiers or even bits of string, but what possible threat could a sentient backpack be? IT could eat your textbooks. Those things are expensive!

And you are certain there was nothing important in her bag, like medication, irreplaceable family photos or credit cards? I take the bus a lot, there is no problem with her using a bag to protect her personal space, she may have gone through a personal trauma, she may be painfully shy or claustrophobic, you have no way of knowing. And I've been on more than one bus where people have taken a leak on purpose, including a woman who tried to pee into a beer bottle, so I wouldn't want my stuff on those floors. She had every right not to want people sitting next to her, she was there first, if she gets on the bus and there's nowhere to sit, tough luck, it won't kill her, me, you or anyone without a disability to stand. And no, she should not then have to give up her seat if the bus fills up, she has just as much right as anyone else on that bus, and first come, first served. Me, personally, if I get on a bus that has nowhere to sit except for a seat occupied by a bag, I walk by and see if anyone offers a seat, if they don't, I stand and wait for seats to open up, because it's the polite, responsible thing to do. And yes, if someone just grabs someone else's bag and flings it off the bus, forcing the girl out of her seat, without first asking if she'd move it, since you said he JUST flinged it away immediately, yeah, I'd have a big problem with that, he has zero right to do that, and if HE'S got anger issues like that, he could probably do with a lesson in chivalry and civility. She is only entitled to one seat. That's it. And if there's no room elsewhere, the bag moves. Bottom line. I don't care about her personal space, her medication, her past, her trauma, or whatever. That is completely meaningless to my own comfort. I'm not standing on a bus when there's an open seat just because some girl's an anti-social weirdo. As a paying patron on that bus I come before her bag and all other bags. She can sit it on her lap, build a little tent on her seat, whatever. But if there's a space (unless there's a woman or someone old there standing --then they get it first) I'm taking it. Holy Shit, Sean Careless posted in the Off-Topic section!

I feel more context is in order.
First off, it's Texas. We go out of our way to make everyone feel welcome (at least here in Lubbock), so even people like me who aren't the best with social interactions can still find a place.
Second off, she had a sorority shirt on, so it's not as if she was anti-social. She was just a bitch. She yelled at somebody for even SUGGESTING she move her backpack, in between talking loudly on her cell phone (something the bus has strict rules against, but a few people ignore).
While I agree that it MAY have been too far to throw the backpack out the door, it did get a hardy round from the people on the bus. It's one of the unspoken rules, if you're a douche to someone, you're GOING to get it ten times worse. It rarely escalates beyond that point, as by then, the person acknowledges "man, I done screwed up to get this kind of response."
And finally, there's still an unspoken code of chivalry here. If a female gets on the bus, and a "capable" male is sitting, he offers her the seat, no questions asked.

What I would like to know, is what was this girls (and the people who witnessed it's) reaction when the guy threw her bag off the bus?
Did she yell and scream and get off the bus? Did the bus drive off without her?

If said women is disabled/elderly/whatever then I will offer my seat out of courtesy but if healthy, perfectly capable girl walks on a full bus then she is standing. Chivalry be damned, why should she be more comfortable than me?

Chivalry be damned, why should she be more comfortable than me? Agreed. But the exception to the rule would be Renee Paquette. If Renee got on the bus and I was sitting there, I'd be up out of my seat making sure she didn't have to stand.

A couple more people I had the unfortunate pleasure of being on the bus with this week. Note that these are full buses during morning and afternoon rush hour...

Looks like that kid in the back caught you taking his photo. As for the girl in this pic, I can't assume she would have complained if someone asked her to move. If there's an open seat and no one's around, I probably would have had my leg up as well until someone came up for the spot. It doesn't exactly look like anyone's struggling to stand while the bus moves, unless there are others who aren't in the pic.

Like I stated before. I always sit like this in the bus because it hurts my back to travel sideways and the steps in the back are to hard for me to walk down. But at the same time nobody has ever asked me to move because once the bus starts getting full I sit normally.

I guess I just think it's rude to even put your feet/shoes up on the seat like that, when the next person is going to have to sit there. Actually, I thought this picture was going to be the one to get a bigger reaction:

Actually, I thought this picture was going to be the one to get a bigger reaction: It's actually easier to discuss the other pic because it provides a larger view of what's happening. It shows the alleged "crime," as well as several passengers and part of the overall interior. Therefore, we can make more intelligent comments and observations. In the other pic, it's a guy sleeping. I can't tell whether the bus is crowded or if he's even in a bus. Therefore, I'm not going to judge.

First picture with the girl, bus wasn't too full... but she was getting many dirty looks and nobody felt comfortable asking her to move her feet off the seat. Second picture is hard to tell because of the close up, but yes.. that bus was extremly full... the 25-30 standing room only full like you mentioned. And everyone was too shy to wake the kid up. He was out like a light. I did have a good laugh when he finally did wake up and jumped out of his seat realizing he had missed his stop though!
